Silent mode doesnt work in most versions.. The only trick that worked is to make a call (some free number), and open the lens cover while calling.
The call will mute the sound.

The Only Trick that Really Worked is to Make a Call (On a Free Number) & Take a Picture / Snap. The Call Will Mute the Sound of the Camera.
