they are not really compaable mate, as the ps3 will be coming out a year later, it has better hardware (cell processor and what not) but the xbox 360 will have other things which will kick ass (halo 3, and lots of other features).
but there also will be a huge differnce in the price, I hear the xbox is set to be 170 upon release and the ps3 anywhere between 200-350 (these figures are in uk pounds)
The tiger os thing is very interesting thanks for poiting it out

TBH most consoles get hacked for alsorts of OS supports so it wouldn't be surprising if they do start releasing ports to consoles.
I don't think choice of console is going to matter until seeing the games line up. I'm more in favour of the PS3 given the games line up of the PS2 over the xbox.

XBOX360 has half the graphical and numerical calculation power of the PS3, the price will be closer to £220+, Game developers are signing to the PS3 unlike XBOX360. (It's a matter of time before the PS3 gets Halo 3....). Sony have more experience than Microsoft in pricing, its unlikely that PS3 will cost much more, but look what you get, the most advanced processors commercially available, the biggest gaming library, what more do you need? Also, the XBOX360 is due out late November/December, PS3 is out in march 2006.
Just wait, the PS3 will blow you all away!!!

I remember how Sony showcased the PS2, they claimed this and that...they said they played the Movie ants in real time...i was like...WOW!!! they even claimed 50 million polygons per second...But then when the thing finally came out...reaching a few million was like hard enough for the machine! When microsoft announced the XBox, they gave pretty accurate specs, and what they showed, was easily recreated. This alone proves to me, that the XBox 360 is going to be an awesome machine where as the PS3 is going to be over hyped which is due to Sony's over specing their machine. Also another thing to take in mind is that even if the PS3 has 3 processors it has a way smaller bandwith comapared to the Xbox 360, meaning, the power of those processors will not be able to run fully. Finally online play, i have to admit, I have both the xbox and the PS2 and both are online connected....after playing the online capabilities of the Xbox...i never went back to the PS2...Dont get me wrong ok? I own both the ps2 and xbox and will br buying both the ps3 and xbox 360...but i am expecting that i will be more inclined to the Xbox360.

that's actually not quite true. it can theoretically do twice the number of raw calculations (if sony can be believed
) which isn't nearly the same thing.
this has been debated ad-nauseum in the thread i linked to earlier.
and sony have warned it will be quite expensive at launch - probably out of the range of most households.
