No the Sony headphones are still good headphones, but they are designed to excel at base only when megabase is used. As the post you provide says, the "screechy highs" of the hpm-70 don't compare to the "darker" base of the cs300's they are compared against.
Sony expect you to use megabase if you want "darker" base. Megabase solves the "screechy high" problem. However my view is that megabase is good but not excellent - it often creates muddy base. Whereas without megabase, Sony headphones are tinny but have good clarity and are excellent in all but deep base reproduction.
I'm not the only one who notices this. In a comparison involving Sony MDR E888 LP headphones, posted by coolvij at head-fi.org, I quote "the bass is fairly disappointing; no LOW bass presence, and a mid-bass without enough punch. Almost sounds like they WANT you to use Mega Bass (!?) - I don't, so.....there"
This isn't the only time I've read similar opinions about Sony headphones bass reproduction (and not just in the high end like the E888).
Infact the posts you link to support the idea that Sony is light on in bass reproduction. It's typical Sony proprietary practice, I don't find it surprising at all. Because it works in reverse too - without megabase Sony device base reproduction is not as thumpy as other devices. And non-sony headphones are too base responsive to use megabase (sounds muddy). Forces you to buy Sony headphones so you can use megabase to get decent base you see
btw, I've also read on head-fi that ex51 is more comparable to hpm-70 rather than the ex71, but I've never been in a position to do a direct comparison.
re: ep630, I've always thought of sennheiser as the high end, so I'm surprised that a "cheap" creative earphone could be a rebranded sennheiser, but if that's what it is then that's what it is. And sennheiser do have some cheaper headphoones these days.

now i agree with you^^, but in my case, that my cell doesn't have MEGA BASS (k800) it's better for me getting some earbud of another manufacturer that's not sony...

yes I agree with that. I'm not sure why they dropped magabase from K800 other than because it's not a walkman phone. Bit rough, even my Sony pocket fm radio has megabase!
I may be wrong about Sony headhones but most of the pairs I've had seem to be crisp and clear in mid to high, but lacking bang and clarity in the base.
And megabase always seems to work better with Sony headphones.
btw, even though I said I was planning to upgrade my hpm7- buds to a better Sony brand, I wasn't saying it was the best option for everyone. I'm not particularly fussy, so I'm happy to settle for just a slight improvement over my current ones. But sennheiser (and perhaps the creative ep630 if they are the same thing) might be a better option and if they cost the same then why not. I'll probably have a closer look at them myself.

sennheisser cx300 is way better than the sony ex71. The ex71 is very shrill and it is intolerable IMO. Although the cx300 maybe a tad harsh at the high end, it's sound reproduction is better than the sony's.
the marshmallows are even cheaper than both and they have deeper bass IMO. But, they lack detail a tad bit compared to the cx300. I still like the marshmallows better though.
if isolation is not really needed, then go for the ksc75. In terms of SQ, it beats all these cheap IEMs to a pulp for about 20 bucks. And if you don't like the clip ons, then you can headband mod it for about 5 bucks.
right now i'm enjoying the yuin pk1...

sooooo much better than e888s.
