Does really affect me here in the UK as we dont have EDGE supported by the networks here. We do have 3G now though so there is no need for EDGE.

Has EDGE class 10!
SE s710 also has Class 10
SE z500 & z520 both have class 10 EDGE.
Now, as for the bands ... it should provide EDGE on all the bands the phone supports, BUT the caution for US in Canada is that Rogers' our only true provider (it owns Fido) EDGE is ONLY offered on the 850Mhz band, thus far.

For those of us in countries that dont have the bands of 900/1800/2100 the latter for 3G like EurAsia (Europe+Asia) its needed. because GPRS is hella slow. Some providers, in South Africa, South & North America have millions; serious #'s of customers they support for EDGE and we're loving it, because there is no offering of WCDMA just yet outside of limited trials in the USA. So EDGE has its purpose. SE is missing out on millions of potential sales. So they now realize this hence the 4 devices now available.

Aghem, have you read up on edge?? 3g speed is closer to edge than standard GPRS, edge can also do live streaming, a bit distorted but non the less it allows very fast streaming!!!
Iv used it on a 6230i and was VERY impressed, my little K700 on the same network was about a min slower and didnt even load the full page!!

That's just theoretical values. In practice if you get a download speed of anything between 70 and 100 Kbps, you have a good Edge connection (depends on distance to antenna, number of simultaneous users etc.).
With 3G the theoretical download speed is around 2 Mbps. In pratcical situations around 250-350 Kbps is more realistic values (3G networks have higher capacity than 2.5G networks).
If we talkk future and 3G HSDPA (next genration UMTS) we have theoretical download speeds of 14 Mbps. In practice it will of course be much lower, how much is hard to tells since HSDPA networks will be launched by few operators this autumn (first HSDPA phones will be available at beginning of 2006 according to Ericsson).

But its the 23 Aug 2005!!! Edge afaik has been around for 6-9 months!!
So did
just ignore it it coz its irrelevant compared with 3G??
Also why are they using it now with the new Walkman phone??
