The moment you add an image to an MMS, you can Edit the image and in the editor you have a tool to resize the image. It's not very intuitive, but it works.
And better, this way you don't have all the work to pre-edit the image and saving as a new name before creating the message.
The new resized image will be saved in the MMS.
