I got mine through the Car Phone warehouse two weeks ago and gave the O2 Sim card to my sister.

Good thing is that few phones in the CPWH are locked. I love the phone.

Hi Joan

Well, I did get one in the end but not from Vodafone...
I rang and asked for an upgrade. He said, yep, sure £150 please. I said no thanks!

I then rang back and he quoted me the same price. I told him that I could get it cheaper elsewhere and was quite happy to change networks so he cut it to £75 but then told me that that they couldn't send it until Oct 10th at the earliest.

So, I went into Phones4U where I got my phone last year and they said they could do the upgrade then and there. To get it free I would have had to increase my tariff from £35 p/mnth to £43 p/mnth but could change it back down after 3 months, thus making the phone £27.

BUT, when I agreed to this she then was told by 'management' that it wasn't released on Voda yet and they weren't sure when it would be.

So, I took the other option which was change to O2 for free phone and £35 p/mnth tariff which included more texts and mins than I had from Voda. So I think I'm happy.

I did feel though that Voda were no longer falling for the threats to move network. He did go through some spiel with me about it but I couldn't make sense of what he was saying. I spoke to about 3 different people and got the £75 quote each time so I guess that was their best price.

But, despite the things I read about Phones4U, I have got three top top range phones from them for free and have found them really helpful and knowledgable so a positive vote for them!

But so far (and Mac issues aside) I love the phone. Any doubts I had are completely gone. It's gorg!

My W800i arrived this morning!

It looks like a quality phone, a big step up from the K700i in features, build quality and sound quality.

I can't wait for my new 500 xnet anytime minutes + 30 text tariff to kick in next month for £25 /month

Thanks Gooner girl. Good shopping. Unfortunately, O2 doesn't work very well at my place, so I'll probably end up switching to orange.

@jakester @odie - I can't see that deal on the orange site. sounds perfect. Where did you find it?

joan: It's not available to new customers, it's a retention deal offered to customers who are up for renewal and threaten to leave. Basically it's a 'secret' OVP tariff to match 3G and you only get offered through retentions.

wow! they actually treat existing loyal customers better than new ones!

seems enough reason to join them anyway

It's luck of the draw really, others have reported not being offered anything by Orange and even I was told "want me to cancel your account then" the first time I threatened to leave if I wasn't offered a better deal.

Retentions (and upgrade) offers are usually based on examining how much you spend on average, taking into account your monthly line rental and more importantly how much money *over* the line rental you spend (e.g someone with a 30 tariff that spends 10 extra on calls a month is not as good as someone on a 10 tariff that spends 30 extra on calls, even though they both spend 40 quid a month)

Joan

Don't know if this is any good to you, but my best friend has just got one on Vodafone through dialaphone.co.uk.

W800i - free
Line rental - £35 p/m
275 mins
500 text
Stop the Clock (talk for 60 mins, pay for 3)
3 months free line rental
18 month contract though.

If I had seen this I wouldn't have changed to O2.....

Anyway, thought I'd pass it on.

Thanks Gooner Girl,

If i can get that deal, I'll probably stay. I've been looking at the orange 300min/100 text for £30 deal, but have been reasonably happy with vodafone.

now just have to find a deal like that online so i can bully vodafone into matching (the orange phone cost £30)
