I work in an o2 retail store and there is a serious probem in getting the w800i. If we are lucky every 2 weeks we get a delivery of around 8 of the phones whereas at times we've had nearly 60 k750i's being delivered (which dont last the week). In soo many ways i'm glad sony ericsson are doing well, all this short supply will probably get other people interested inm how good they are. But they are not prepared enough to cope with demand, we could have easily sold hundreds more of the w800i's for se

Yes u did. Ericsson sold out almost all its factories and fired thousands of people in sweden. Ericsson basicly don't have any factories left. And since they don't manufacture in the factories Ericsson sold to Flextronics this is what happens...

isnt this just a common se problem. i seem to remember the same issues with the t610 and the k700. they seem never to be able to produce the right amount of phone for the demand.
its seems to have been an ongoing problem and probably why se sales dont have the bigger increases they deserve
the problem comes for the consumer when they decided they want a new phone and cant get the one they want they often buy something else. my friend was looking at the w800 it wasnt in stock so he ends up getting the motorola itunes phone, not as good but in stock.

Yes the article say it decided to manufacture its Walkman phones in its own factories.
All of the major manufacturers use outsourcing these days, but it sounds like they need to 'pulll their socks up' and get the phones on the shelves.

Ericsson and Sony might need to open new factories for the Sakura/W850 :]
