so if i dont get a mp3 player aplication for my phone it still wont play mp3's??

Yup, you should install 3rd party application like Ultra MP3 Player or alike in order your Nokia S60 to play MP3, otherwise it only can play WAV.
NGage QD, 3650/3660, 6600 don't have built-in MP3 player...
