This is happening to way too many phones, and I for one am not sure it is a phone fault but a batch of faulty memory cards. Is there any way to find out build date or serial number for the cards, to see if they are all within a certain build or serial range. Mine did exactly the same thing, and was also only a matter of days old, but was the first time it was connected to the computer.

Well, before I ship mine off to Southampton in a little jiffy bag, here's the SN (as it appears on the card):

SDMSPD-512
AX0510BW

I have received an RMA number and will send it back today.

Just hoping it arrives quicker than:

PLEASE NOTE: The issue of an RMA number DOES NOT guarantee a credit or a replacement.

Mine is exactly the same, numbers on the back, but very very hard to read.

This has just happened to my W800i and SanDisk Memory Card !!!

Had the phone on upgrade from orange only 3 days ago - it nolonger switches on (just makes it to the sony ericson logo) and the sandisk memory stick is nolonger visiable in phone (when it was working) in a card read or anything else!! exactly the same problem as above!!

This irritating thing is that orange will replace my phone but not the memory card and sim card!!! ARGH !!

so i have called peak distribution and they are calling me this afternoon..

i have a few questions though..

do you think the new card that they send out as a replacement will have the same folders installed on it that the oe card has so that the phone knows where to save everything??

Also, has anyone tried calling or contacting sony ericson about this ?!?!

Dave

damn!! got the same problem as you guys!! just now!! no card reader or camera or phone can detect my memory card.. what happened is i was loading songs to my memory card via the usb cable supplied (in the package).. then i disconnect it after transfering..when i checked my phone it can't detect the memory card.. i think it is because i forgot to click the "safely remove hardware" icon at the bottom.. oh man.. can you guys help me? is this really it? should i throw it? i only have the phone for 1 week..

James,

I am on the Engineering team at SanDisk. We are very interested in HOW your card failed.

1) Was the card originally functional?
2) What event triggered the failure?
3) Do you push the card ALL THE WAY into the push-push socket, or do you simply put the card in the socket and close the rubber door?
4) How are you using the card? Photos? MP3? Video?

Any input is helpful.

If you have not already sent your card back to the distributor, I would be interested in having it sent directly to SanDisk.

Thanks
Mike

Hi,

Unfortunately, I have already sent it back to one of your UK distributors, however I can answer your questions.

1) Yeah, it worked fine - I had a whole MP3 album on there
2) The computer just crashed when the phone was in the PC.
3) Yes, I pushed it in until it clicked.
4) I had my phone storing photos taken on it and MP3s (No videos yet)

Seems I'm not alone though, a lot of people seem to be reporting the same problem.
