Replying to myself, but hey

I use the Fedora Core distribution of Linux, but I built a Ubuntu 5.10 under VMWare to check it out...

I see that there is a "gaim" package on there - does this do what you want?

East, just download knoppix and boot from cd, it has two im programs, one called gaim, and the other called kopete. Run kopete and fix the protocols. Once you have configured knoppix like you like (desktop, program settings, etc), save the configurations to a diskette by clicking on the penguin, and save config to floppy. The floppy must be ext though, so format it with k format.

Download and burn the knoppix image from here:

DVD:
ftp://ftp.bay13.net/pub/knopp[....]IX_V4.0.2DVD-2005-09-23-EN.iso

CD:
ftp://ftp.bay13.net/pub/knopp[....]PIX_V4.0.2CD-2005-09-23-EN.iso

Cheers!

EDIT: Kopete is the best im in knoppix imo.

@EastCoastStar - you can use a regular terminal & perform a "su -" to become root.

If your /etc/ld.so.conf doesnt exist then I think you will need to add the standard library locations, i.e. /lib, /usr/lib, ...

When I get home I will check on the vmware version I have & let you know...
