UI-wise, i think the w550 is better, i find samsung UIs to be not-so-intuitive.
if you want a classy phone, go for the d500. but if you're a music lover, go for the w550. it even has a special plug where you can use even better headsets with the phone, or you could plug it straight into your house speaker and hear it play music!

You get those really good fontopia earphone with the W550, but you dont with the D500.
The W550 has 256MB internal memory, the D500 has only 80MB. (Neither phone has expandable memory).
The W550 comes with a USB cable in the box. The D500 does not.
The W550 is a walkman, the D500 is not.
Above all else, the W550 is SE. The D500 is not.

D500 and D600 have a quite slow T9 function.
and like many other members here said: the W550 is the better phone, easely. i myself had one and i loved it, wish i still had one (needed to sell it for the money)

How do you compress the files? What software do you use? I currently save the files in AAC format to make them smaller than MP3, but that's it.

2. Better external speaker sound
3. Better headphone sound
4. Equalizer in music player
5. larger memory
The only thing that I found nice about the D500 at first was the multi-shot camera feature but after using it for a while I realized it wasn't really that useful.
