@mark tang, it's more than just a 'bit over a month ago', it's around the 3 month mark I think.

Most Photo printers are 4800 x 1200 anyway, so anything above a 2MP cam is useless anyway

OK, I'm going to make remarks at a few posts here, but I won't be quoting them.

Just because a camera can take 3 megapixel pictures, it doesn't mean that it is a high quality camera. The digital resolution (megapixels) is a measure of the dots that the saved image is composed of, not of the clarity if an image.

Further on this topic, a 3 megapixel dedicated digital camera will most definately take clearer looking pictures than one integrated into a phone.

A 15x10 cm (6x4 inch) picture printed at 4800x1200 dpi has a digital resolution of over 130 mega pixels. While an eight megapixel image printed in that space may look faithful to it's depection in many circumstances, it is nowhere near the full accuracy of the printer, and a 2 megapixel camera certainly isn't. GoldFinger, you are in a good position to be confused.

It's too easy to play a numbers game and assume that 3mp is automatically going to be better then 2. As rav0 said, it's a measure of the recorded number of pixels. The lens is probably the most important element of a camera, and image quality can be screwed up by inadequate image capture software. I'm sure we'll have 7mp+ phone cams before too long, but they will struggle to get near dedicated digicams of similar superficial specification. I'm happy with my K750i, but it is no substitute for my 7mp Canon, nor even the 2mp Olympus I still have.

It depends on what you want from the camera function of the phone, but be careful not to get sucked in to getting a phone that doesn't meet your expectations solely based on image size.
