my phone just randomly came back on, works now...
but no doubt that in a few days or weeks it will do it again.
gonna try a hand it in for a brand new one,
and after that i'll decide wether to keep it or sell it.

I had the same problem with a Nokia 7250i. And it mainly said 'insert sim' whenever i went outside. I changed the cover, which worked a bit, but what solved the problem in the end was i put a strip of tape around the battery. I know it sounds daft but i havnt had the problem since. My daughter has the fone now.

The other thing to try is put a small folded piece of paper between the sim card and batt to increase the contact between the sim and reader, also ensure all screws are tightened properly

cheers...
mines actually stopped now since i recently got a replacement k750 as my last one had countless problems, which i am about 99% sure was because of the firmware. this new phone has the newest firmware, but obvioulsy because its new and se have upgraded it, it works fine. bugs just seem to get introduced when firmware is put online for downloading.

I have a brand new Motorola v190 with the same issue. I had a heck of a time to get it to work to begin with. I applied a little pressure on the sim card and it worked for a while. This phone has a little silver lock that is supposed to hold the sim card. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to apply enough pressure to keep contact. I don't know if there is any way to adjust the pressure or not. It almost seems like the sim card is not thick enough. I even tried several sim cards. If I put a piece of cardboard or plastic on top of the sim card it seems to put enough pressure on. A piece of plastic from an old credit or bank card seems to work well. I hate to return it since I really like the phone and have already swithed my old number to this phone. Try it, it may help your situation as well.

@xu - I totally agree with Samboy's suggestion back there matey . . . or you CAN rub the gold-plated-tin of your simcard AGAINST your jeans, some sort of cleaning it - gently, then try inserting the simcard - again !
