The S700 doesn't have to power a 3G/UMTS transceiver as well.

So, the reason the W900i cannot have a standby clock is because it is a 3G phone too ? so is the Z800i, and that has 2 screens !
It also has 6 flash LEDs, i can see a standby clock seriously affecting standby times significantly - not.

Are you saying it doesn't have 3G then?
The non-3G (therefore much less current draw) P910i uses a 1000mAh battery, the W900i only has a 900mAh battery. So you can stick your accusations of "homemade".
The Z800 also only has estimated standby of 240hours versus the W900i's 370 from the same battery, and the external screen exists for the primary purpose of quick-glance information, hence its functionality, plus the fact of course that in standby mode its only powering the small low-res, low bit-depth external screen. I'd rather have the extra 100 odd hours of standby...
I've no doubt Sony could implement the clock into the firmware, but as they've essentially removed it, rather than not include it (assuming the firmware has some basis from prior models), it stands to reason they had a reason for doing so. It wouldn't surprise me if they include an option to have it in a future firmware though.

Your possible reason might be correct, but id hesitate thinking it is, simply on the grounds that its the only phone to be this way, whereas SE have produced other 3G handsets, other QVGA screen handset, and they've pretty much all had the standby clock.
The real reason might simply be because SE know the W900i has a pretty poor battery life compared to previous phones, regardless of the specified talk and standby times, and so removed the feature to boost battery life. It really could be as simple as that.

The S700i didnt have the standby clock. People used to complain that SE hadnt put it on the S700i.

@knight, of course the w900 is 3g but i still don't buy ur logic 'bout the battery consumption due to the large screen. the p910 even with it's better battery as u say has horrible battery life, i need to charge mine thrice in 24 hours. even then se didn't rule out the standby clock.
i don't remember if the s700 had a standby clock, etaab says it did & jc is sure that it didn't so i'm guessing that it must have something to do with the screen for se denying both these phones a standby clock. but i don't think battery consumption is the reason.

You sure about that JC ? my friends heavily Vodafraud branded S700i had the clock, and still does AFAIK unless im mistaken.
