i was at the araneta yesterday and there's a smart booth in the entrance. i asked for a 3G demo and sure thing, my phone works. i tried to call her (the PROMO GIRL!) and it was successful. WOW (the 3G and the girl
). Now, if only i could make a video call successfully with my girl
they said that the video call depends on the signal strength, thateven if you do have a signal but weak, the success rate is minimal to nil.
well, they better improve the system, they stil hae enough time for it but ASAP, or the rival telecom will overtake them, knowing globe, they simply are quiet, ut when they roll, they roar. maybe the globe is SIMPLY AMAZING

For those who have access to 3G and can download data BUT CANNOT MAKE VIDEO CALLS, report it to customer service or better yet, go to the nearest Smart Center.
It is a network problem and their technical people have to switch something in their system.
To test your video call, you may get in touch with the following promo girls: Crystal 0928.9100035 from Smart Shangri-la and RT 0919.9100128 from Smart Rockwell.
Don't worry... all they do is smile and say "Hello" until you hang up.

Check my post just above your post to call the Smart promo girls Crystal and Rt. In addititon to that, you may want to call Laarni from Smart Gateway 0918.9487124.
Don't be shy calling them as that is their job... just tell them you are testing the video call and let them pose for you.

I got to test a video call from Zamboanga (during my stay a few weeks ago) to my wife's N70 in Makati. It was pretty good.

there's no such thing as a 3g sim card. I've been using a very old sim card to make 3g calls and it works...sometimes.
smart 3g is definitely a gimmick right now. it takes somewhere between 3-10 tries before you can pull off a successful vid call. and if it does push through, most of the times the calls auto terminate after around 5 mins.

when the trial ends you will need to use a 3G sim card (USIM) to access the service. i believe the USIM is needed to manage the billing. the 5 min limit is probably also because it is a free trial and they don't want the system clogged up.
