The W900 has not had the "Coming soon" tag on the SE India for about 2 months now... but the phone is still not available. I have given up waiting for it.

for old Ericsson fan we are very happy tht SE can manage to launch a product 3 to 5months after the announcement

It used to be like 6 to 9months before you see the product selling in the shop.

Most mobile phone maker didn't do things like apple did.

partly....apple develope their own hardware and software...so they can control everything before letting the public know.

Company like motorola, SE or nokia cannot because they make the hardware and software for the phone...but the phone need to interface with every mobile phone operator's network which might be running different brand of network equipment.

plus a lot of 3rd party software developer (for java or symbian) also be involved.

Therefore most phone maker tense to announce the product first so all those company aware this and have all the tweaking done.

Yes. But timing the release is equally important. Or else a movie of the same story might have already celebrated a silver jubilee. This message was posted from a WAP device

We really do not have to wait for too long to lay hands on the K800/K790 as they were announced this week, and should be available in shops in less than twelve weeks. Its the P990 that's been on the coming soon list for far too long.

Quite true, the P990i is and will be there for quite some time under the Coming Soon section.

I'm all for notification as early as possible that a phone is being developed - it serves a dual purpose, which is create interest and pave the way for greater sales and for the consumer it helps keep them in touch with the brand.
But... and its a biggy... I think it totally wrong to have one simple label for these phones called 'coming soon'. This is misleading and cynical by the manufacturer. It also is a massive own goal as the consumer becomes cyncial by the process as they are kept waiting, sometimes for months on end.
The manufacturer should simply instigate a system whereby new phones that are in development are called just that. Then, when testing is drawing to a close and a release date is known, they switch (fairly late in the process) to 'coming soon'.
Easy!
... & No-one feels lets down or disenfranchised by the process.

Well I think SE doing well, never in its history showed so many phones. Most phones get release on time, they said W810 will be out in Q2 we are still in 1Q. Most phones they announce last afew weeks will come out in Q2 so its quick. Both SE and operators have to test the phones before releasing so it takes time.
