transfering back out of the phone...

made the file as instructed above, put it in others.. now what?

copying back out just copies that same file.. have i missed something?

@Xugaa: i'll try sending the install file, but how does that work for /tpa/preset/system/oaf/applist/suites.dat ?

@chrisdaniels:

The file you have created is a Virtual Link file. It points to an actual file in your phone. Once you have transferred the .vlnk file into your phone, your phone can recognise it as its target - it simple 'becomes' the file it points to. So if you transfer it out, you effectively copy out the file it points to. In our case, the 1.jar.vlnk in will become 1.jar out, where the 1.jar is a copy of superrealtennis.jar.

If the .vlnk doesn't come out correctly as the file it points to, you might have done something wrong creating the .vlnk.

Or, again, I'm not 100% sure if this really works on a K750.

Edit: I've just repeated the steps I've given and it worked as it should.

well i dont know then.. i got the idea that it was a link, and that you were implying it would pull it from the phone.

but i just cant get it to work.
i put it down to the file too. I played with it for ages last night, adding 00 00 in hex then just 00.. i gave up eventually,

i looked on the net but could only find references to the cruiser kit, so was wondering if that was needed.. but it seems not..

can you pull it back out still using USB or do you need to bluetooth ? do you need to disconnect the usb so it links to phone memory? is it the vlink that i transfer back out?

EDIT:Sorry, forgot the K700 doesnt have usb cable..or did it? i cant remember now..

If i can get this working, maybe i could do other things..!

PS. can you upload to phone memory using a similar method? i wouldnt think so..

@chrisdaniels:

It's not all that hard... When I just tried it, it took no more than 1 minute, including creating the vlnk file, tranferring it to my K700 via bluetooth, and transferring it out.

Adding 00 00 to the end means appending 00 00 in hex. You have to put the .vlnk to the "Others" folder using normal OBEX file transfer. At the moment the phone receives it, it's all ready 'changed' to the file you want so you just copy it out straight.

Which file are you trying to get out? Are you sure you've got its correct path?

EDIT: This method should work for almost any file resided on the phone, which you normally can't have access to. But you have to make sure you have the correct path.

nope not working for me..

i'm pretty sure the k750 uses pretty much the same filesystem

Maybe you could write an indepth guide or point to some resouce on the net for me?

its the first time i've heard of this solution to pull out things from phone memory- where did you find it out?

you send the INSTALL file via bluetooth or whatever...
the file that you installed the game with, if you got it off your computer, did you? cos if its from wap you can't as they wouldn't allow that.
you send it to another mobile, it will go to where they want it or to others etc, they then click on that and click on install. and it then will appear in games or applications folder after install (if a succesful install of course, some game files i've found can sometimes be corrupt and wont install).

@chrisdaniels:

All possible causes for not working with your K750:

1. This 'vlnk' thing won't work on any K750, or
2. The file path you included in the .vlnk is invalid, or
3. You didn't build the vlnk file correctly. The detailed step:
>>3.1. open UltraEdit (download a trial if you don't have one)
>>3.2. write in the path to the file on the phone you wish to extract, e.g. /tpa/preset/system/oaf/superrealtennis.jar (on K700)
>>3.3. save NOW the newly created file with double file extension, e.g. 1.jar.vlnk, in "UTF-16 - NO BOM" format (say 1.jar.vlnk)
>>3.4. press Ctrl+H to enter hex edit mode
>>3.5. append "00 00" (hex) to the end of the file
>>3.6. save again and exit UltraEdit

Your final 1.jar.vlnk should look like (for superrealtennis.jar on K700):
(The appended "00 00" is highlighted in blue by me.)

4. Or you didn't transfer files correctly:
>>4.1. send the file to the "Others" folder on your phone directly
>>4.2. use the phone's 'Send' function to send the 'same' file out to PC and you should get the 1.jar which is a copy of superrealtennis.jar.

I'm afraid this is all I can help. If it still won't work, consider giving up instead of potentially wasting your time.

Any K700 user might wish to give a go at extracting a file in the way described in one of my previous replies.

yep, did exactly as descibed above. still not working.

The difference with K750 over usb is: save the file in others on Memory card, disconnect the cable, switch file to phone memory & send.
Still only copies out the vlnk.

i've tried it with other .jars that i have put on there (so i know the file name), still doesnt work..

Think its time to give up..

@xugaa: you cant send the install file. If you could i wouldnt need to do this. Once a .jar is installed in the phone, there is no send option from games/apps.
