EDGE has a higher higher data speed than GPRS. 3G has a higher dta speed then EDGE and also has the option of video calls.
It depend on where you are as to which is better as here in the UK only Orange supports EDGE so 3G is genarelly better but some countries dont have 3G but do have EDGE.

I would say that in the UK it is better the have the K800i. I think in the US EDGE is more widespread so the K790i would be better, but I am not 100% sure.

Not true, If you get the K800 the 3g would be all but useless in the US, since the only 3g GSM provider is Cingular and they are not using the same frequency for 3g as is used in Europe (2100mhz I belive), so the phone would give you zero benefit, and would actually be slower than a K790( which has EDGE) since it would only be usable for GPRS (up to 56kbps).
