Hi, I had the same problem with my w810. Posted the problem on a Norwegian forum and someone advised me to use dielectric silikon paste, the kind they use to grase mekanisms inside for example DVDplayers. It doesn't melt with heat and it doesn't conduct electrisity, so it isn't harmful to electronics. Just put som on the d-pad and use it a little, then wipe off the excess paste. Now my new phone is silent like it should be.

@axilom: I put it around the edge of the d-pad, without taking anything apart. While applying the paste I tried to push down on one side while applying to the other side, so that the paste would get in between the pad and the cover.

please be aware if you add that grease and your phone becomes faulty, an authorized repair center will not touch your phone for the reason of fluid ingress.
they may also be able to argue the phone has been tampered with even if you have not opened it...

@wilson479: The amount of grease I'm talking about is equal to having some butter on your thumb and answering the phone (which may be an alternative solution, if your afraid silicon paste will harm your phone or void your warranty
). I doubt the use of silikon will be either noticeable nor causing a warranty issue. But I agree, there may be a small risk involved.

When i got mine the squeek was almost unbearable. now just 24 hours later its barely noticeable. I second that its just because of the newness. Wait for it to wear off

welcome in the plastic reality. buttons, covers etc will be usually "noise", thats the reason when brands prefer quantity over quality...
