Or Australia!!
voda_jon, if your charger also exploded, why would SE not be considering a recall? They say that only one reported case is not sufficient?

Maybe it was a fake charger?

Maybe it was on the wrong voltage - unlikely though. Or perhaps a dog chewed the cable, or some other form of damage, and shorted it out. I know my dogs have chewed through the charger cable for my w800 and my son's k300. Bloody labradors puppies!! They chew through anything! The damage was so bad in both cases that I had to shorten the cable length on both chargers. So, I could see how this could cause the charger to overheat. Perhaps, overheating it enough so that it explodes. Could happen to any transformer.

This is my charger. In answer to previous posts, this is a genuine charger that was supplied with the phone, there was no damage to the cables and the supply voltage was correct.
Trading Standards (A UK Local Government agency) have been dealing with Sony Ericsson UK on my behalf about this. They seem satisfied that Sony are dealing with the matter correctly and investigating properly which was my original reason for releasing this story to the press. I didn't want this to be "swept under the carpet". Sony have also indicated that this is the first instance they have had of problems with the CST-20 charger so hopefully this is an isolated incident.
The lesson I have taken away from this is not to trust electrical devices as much, especially chargers. I think we forget how much danger can be inherent in any electrical device. I would not leave any kind of charger unattended in the future!
This has not however affected my confidence in Sony Ericsson as a brand, in fact the K608i is the best phone I have ever had and I love it. I would not hesitate to get another Sony phone.
