in testing this I have successfully uploaded an image renamed from file type .jpg to .jpeg and also renamed to .abc suggesting that the content is being checked rather than the file type

I just tested with a 5megapixel image (from my digital camera) of around 2.4mb in size and that gave the error being reported here
so maybe the image size is part (or all) of the issue?

got the same result, when i wanted to upload a 6mp image, wasnt sure if its net or esato system bug. is the image size too big for the esato system to reduce?

It works great for me, by uploading jpeg images from firefox 1.5 on a linux ubuntu dapper beta.

The upload script(s) used to have a limit of 1MB per file. The error message returned was the same for all type of errors (Not a JPEG file).
It had nothing to do with the file extention. The file extention is not checked at all. It's the content-type of the file. You can name it whatever you want.
The limit is rised to 2MB which would let most 4 megapixels photos pass. I might consider rising this limit when I see a need for it. I can't see that now. I have also added the proper error messages to the upload script.

but even when my pics are under 2mb they still wont upload, it tells me it isnt a jpeg file when it really is
