The P990 is fine as it is, but a better camera say 3.2MP, better video quality, a little less bulk, and it'll be perfect.

kgtjan, where did you get that video the N93 recorded? That's probably going to be my next phone so I'm quiet interested to check it out..

As for the P series.. I think that the size is ok as it is.. The N93 you mentioned is actually bigger AND heavier! Without it making the phone any less usefull I suppose.

Regarding the Nokia N93 video, I found it at gsmarena.com under Nokia N93. Here is the original msg postd on April 26:

"anyone wanna see video recorded by the nokia n93 ? then click this link http://62.61.85.73/nstudio_ws/...ng_space.wmv , but pls remember that the video is meant for streaming , so this is not the highest quality u can get out of it , and this is recorded using a prototype"

if the http link above is not working, try this:

Thanks.

That wasn't bad at all... but not exactlty DVD quality. Hope Nokia'll keep their promise in the final device.

I don't think of P9xx as a bussiness phone, I'd like to see it as the vision of what a smartphone must be. I should be a handheld device to keep you connected, therefore:

Sound/Video/Image quality IS important
PDA functions are essencial.
GPS is a very nice touch
I know is a contradiction, but I'd also like extended battery life
QWERTY is disposable, I prefer to write directly on the screen, I prefer bigger screen than fancy keyboards.

Just to comment, when I was in college, I used to have in my belt a Casio 9850x calc, a Nec 'Brick'phone and a Palm IIIx (yes, what a nerd!). P910 (and the fact I'm no longer in college ) allowed me to have one, small brick in my pocket. It is 1/4 size and about 1/8 size my old Nec Cell phone

Answering the poll:

1. Physcial size
Thinner = better, but current size is ok

2. Camera(current 2MP)
- 5M , I can afford additional cost of up to:
.$150

3. Video - current QVGA (320x240)? 16fps?
- VGA with 32fps

4. QWERTY keyboard
- don't care

5. GPS function
- a must

I still don't see why a business phone should have a camera. Dump it. IR?, Dump it. Poncy headphone sockets?. It's got BT, dump it. In fact, by the time teh P100 would be out, Wi-fi will have completely taken over. Dump the BT too! GPS could be built into a car holder. It's not needed on the main phone. Complicated "power" socket? Dump it. the bloomin phone costs over £400. You can afford to make on lousy special connector (still for a standard SE charger of course!).

Trim the fat, and it could be a great looking, slimline, powerpacked masterpiece.

The camera is critical to the business card scanner! a real time saver so I say lets keep it.

The headphone socket is crucial to enable us to listen to music in stereo for a decent length of time! BT headsets are OK but make you look like a complete and utter muppet walking about in them!!!! and they eat batterys like no tomorrow.

Wi Fi is great feature but will kill battery life the most important thing to be included in the P990 is a decent battery & a quality build please !!!, forget the P1000, if can discontinue its "flagship P910" before the P990 is even released! they are not going to be rushing a so called P1000 out to the market P1000 = VAPOUR PHONE!!!!

The P990 is clearly too late. It was under spec'd to begin with.
Compare it to the O2 XDA II (which has been obsolete for a year):

phone: P990 XDA II
processor: 208 ARM 400Mhz XScale
screen size: 240 x 320 640 x 480
colour depth: 64Bit 64 Bit
camera: 2 Mega 1.3 Mega
WiFi: 802.11 b 802.11b
internal memory: 80MB 128MB
keyboard optional? NO YES (3rd party)

>

• Lose the IR port. Bluetooth is the way forward.
• Forget the keyboard (designed for an infants fingers).
• use a telescopic stylus.
• 802.11g not b!!
• improve video playback fps.
• always have a 3mm stereo mini-jack.
• gps works better with an external antenna, do not include gps (use time difference)
• all buttons should be mappable
• screen MUST lock when you answer the phone.Your face makes screen keystrokes!
• therefore, buttons for answer and hang-up
• keep 5-way jog dial.
• make keyboard optional !!!
• landscape OR portrait screen format (UIQ 3)
• metal housing (new iPod nano's have)

• The GPU wil take pressure of the ARM, but 208 Mhz?! I know there is a lot of questions about al this: whether a seemingly slower processor can be faster overall.

• an iTunes partnership could be beneficial to many users. It would be nice to sync to a PC music library and have an auto-reformat/ opitmisation for viewing films, as well as music download via WiFi and 3G as is already in use on other SE models.

• A good camera IS essential for a business phone: don't forget professionals like: quantity surveyors, designers, architects, builders, etc. The OCR for business cards could easily be adapted for OCR of many different things. Reference books at the library for example.

• Sony has been using motion sensitive switches on devices like cameras which can sense the orientation of the screen and can be used by shaking the device. This could be used for a different input like denying a call, or deleting a message.

• I would like to be able to use my phone to do 3D sketches with some basic editing tools for technical drawings. The Java 3D engine is capable of being used for this.

• I use a P910i. It can be slow at times when using multiple apps. or during music playback while composing messages. I'm not impressed with the P990. I wish my P910 had some of the P990 features: like WiFi and a better camera with lense cover and light. That would have been enough for me to upgrade my p910i.

• The P990 seems to be a case of one step forward and two steps back: removing features that were very useful and replacing them with not so useful alternatives.

• The delay to market has been so excessive that it's already obsolete. Now the P990 sucessor will be delayed while they ship these awful phones out to us. We're not that naive SE. I don't HAVE to replace my P910, so I won't. Too bad, since I have the cash to change...

@g4dg3tfr34k

BUT

The O2 XDA is not a 3G device, this is a big difference and it does not have persistent memory, again a really big technical difference.
