Nope... there's no way of running the Windows version of Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox etc. on anything other than Windows. Same as you can't run Safari, Camino or iCab on anything other than Mac OS X.

All web browsers display the same pages differently. Even exactly the same version of Firefox or Opera on Mac and Windows will display pages differently.

So without having both operating systems you can't test web sites for layout bugs.

@Sloop

I'm not thinking small mate, I'm thinking realistic! Jools has stated the only practical use for runing multiple OSs simultaneously that I can think of, i.e testing cross-platform java apps or websites. Indeed, I used to have two base units, a windows machine and a linux box, attatched to one monitor keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch but only very rarely did I have both switched on at the same time.

And as amnesia said, there's no way that multiple OSs can be run without a performance hit even on very high end systems, so I'm afraid I'm sticking to my guns here; it's a gimmick

You can already run multiple OSs on Intel Macs and at near-native speeds.

Parallels Workstation 2.1 allows you to use any version of Windows (3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT, XP, 2003), any Linux distribution, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2, eComStation, or MS-DOS in secure virtual machines running alongside Mac OS X.

And apparently it is "driven by full support for dual-core processors and Intel Virtualization Technology (included in almost every new Intel-powered Mac), virtual machines created using Parallels Workstation 2.1 Beta5 offer near-native performance and rock-solid stability."
