It doesnt have to be the fact that you have a branded phone. I have an unbranded w810i and it doesnt have the flash menus, while others here in the netherlands with branded phones do have flash menus. So i think it depends on the country.

Use the Officail Sony Ericsson update service (SEUS) i just used it and it works the orange branding is gone, however i havnt tested the cool flash menus yet.

I have done the same as you, though I thought I buggered my phone in the process... it seems okay now and it was just my iMac's Virtual PC messing up... No flash themes yet though!!!

SEUS checks what firmware you have now and matches it with the latest available of that type, so with my T-mobile branded phone it checked for the latest t-mobile branded firmware, and it was up to date so that didnt help, thats why I used to davinci team software to get my phone to generic firmware.

It all just depends what operator you get your phone from and what they've done to your firmware.

Well this means orange simply removed some of their branding.

with your Flashed w810i do your flash menus work.

Yes, because it now has original Sony Ericsson firmware, no operator changes, I'd say it was worth the unbranding. :]
