Even though I'm a T-Mobile customer I'd rather have Cingular on my phone display than VStream.

I have the Panasonic GD87 and it displays Voicestream. I live in New Orleans and the networks here are Voicestream and ATT Wireless. These are the choices I get when i search for networks. I still have the old Voicestream SIM card in it. I went to the T-mobile store and they told me to have that changed I needed to change the SIM, for a 20 dollar fee. Well, as much as I'd like to see T-Mobile in my screen, it's not worth 20 bucks

does it matter what it says on the phone? mine changes from Vstream to Voicestream depending on where i am.. but when i'm in cali it says cingular coz thats what it roams on.. it nevers says t-mobile.. why can't they upgrade us on plans? why do we have to resign contracts to get the deal that current t-mobile users are getting for the same price?

my phone usedto say VStream and Voicestream when i'm roaming. when they changed to T-Mobile, it says "Get More," i have no idea why it's like that. I will probably get a new SIM because I want the T-Mobile logo.

@RJ
I called T-Mobile customer service and they, after speaking with the techs, told me that my sim is old and they cannot do it. Basically any old V-Stream SIM is not remotely updatable

If you have an older sim card, pretty much anything before September 3rd 2002, your phone will always display Vstream. When it comes to the operator ID, there's 2 factors involved, the sim card and what the towers broadcast. With the newer phones that came out since Sept 3rd, they had an updated firmware to make it so that any tower that broadcasted Vstream as the ID the phone would convert it T-Mobile. Now one would think that the phone would be smart enough to convert what the sim cards says as Vstream, but no it doesn't, the card always takes presedense. Probably to ensure that when you put in another providers sim card it will display their name
