as far as the type is concerned,
i think these will work on both pre paid and postpaid
since what i m talking of 1 old original and 1 new original settings
is based on fact that old original(means working ) settings used usage of short forms
"pr" for prepaid
and
"po" for postpaid , makin the settings different in bith cases!!
but now in new original setings these have been removed!!
and instead that is same for both prepaid and postpaid!!!
SPEEDS---
MAN THIS FOR SURE that sppeds r bit less than airtel at my place!!!
AS DURING DOWNLOADIN THEY IS NOT STATIC
like using airtel i get 36-40kbps static
but herei get 30-38 kbps but thats also not 2 consistent !!
(BTW THIS TRICK IS STILL NEW IN MAKE , I HAVN'T EXPERIMENTED
TOOT MUCH ON SPPEDS USING VARIOUS SOFTWARE'S SO HOLD ON)
which may have lot of reasons!!
1)airtel at my place in not congested since here only live services hav been launched!!
2) my state has only 3 operators--bsnl.airtel, aircel!! thus is a just developing mobile region !!!
so may be the infrastructure used by bsnl here (AS THEY DO AT MOST PLACES) IS not upto standards !!!
3)may be the BST(i.e. THECLOSEST TOWER as per alan -as i dont know abt this bst) in my case is quite away from my residance!!!
4)due 2 less signal-genarally i get 40-50% signal only as per THE CELLTRACK.

i don know where thehell is that at my place and when i asked them they also dont know!!
most probably that is thae neraest big exchange(head exchange)
whwer u hav 2 register for activatin "Gprs by filling up a form and agin givin some think(rs 50) 2 wet their always watering mouth!!!!
I METHOD I HAVE ADOPTED is different as i even barred them and fooled on this part(which basiccaly costed me in time taken for activation)
ONE MAIN THING HERE IS THAT ,IF U GO BY THE NORMAL WAY AND WANNA GO BY CC'S NORMAL METHOD (IF THAT IS EFFECTIVE AND EASY WAY-I DON KNOW AS I DIDN'T USED THAT) THEN U WILL BYPASS THE MAIN THING EASILY WITH 50 RS AND THERE IS NO NEED 2 WAIT FOR LONG ABT 1 MTH FOR ACTIVATION!!!

U HAVE 2 ACTIVATE PORTAL FIRST WHICH IS FREE AND U CAN EAT UP CC'S FOR THIS REASON!!
SO WHAT U HAV 2 DO IS--
1) SEND PORTAL to 3733 AND CONFIRMATION SHD COME WITH 5 MIN AT-MAXIMM !!
2) SEND FOR ATLEAST 10 TIMES
3) NOW ALONG ALSO SEND 20-40 SMS AS GPRS TO 3733
4) U WILL GET CONFIRMATION IN BOTH CASES AND MSG TELLS U 2 GET SETTINGS FROM 9400024365, THE NO OF CC!!
BOTH R TOLL FREE AND BOTH R LOCATED IN CHANDIGARH!!!
(((((((AND SOME OF THE CC'S SAY they cant give such sensitive information that where they r located, as if thay have a 3 rd world of their own! and the other dumbs said that they r in chandigarh!!!!)))))
I WOULD ADVISE ALL FIRST, 2 call them once 2 get the settings!!
(most of the times that is incorect but gives u an idea of settings in ur area))
Try 2 get settigs in ur 1 st call only,
GET COMPLAINT REGISTERED THAT UR PORTAL HAS NOT ACTIVATED
6)AFTER THAT, u have 2 only wait until "G" signal is there on ur screen!!
LOOK, WHAT I HAVE WRIITEN ABV IS METHOD by which i got activated my "G" service !!! without fillin any form or such and without any money drain!!
may be since it bypasses the formal way of registeration, that is why this trick is working !!!!!!!!!!!!
SO IF SOMEONE HAS A GOOD TRICK PLZ COME UP AS
B S N L PROVIDES GOOD EXPERIENCES 2 ALMOST MAJORITY OF SUBSCRIBERS!!!!

You wrote some much big stories, of yours with BSNL. But to my surprise you forgot to write the actual main and important required thing, i,e Settings???

Ya, I agree with others.. BSNL service is very poor. as far as reception and calls are concerned. But Freeworld what about gprs service? Check and let me know so that If its working fine then I will buy 1 bsnl prepaid.
And also try sending FREE MMS.

---u can surf full gprs using ACCESS POINT=GPRS
AND THAT WILL COST U 2PAISE /KBYTE ON PREPAID

((POSTPAID has 2 plans w.e.f. 15/05/2006-
1)Rs 49 plan in which 5mb data transfer is free and then after thatdata transfer charges at 1 paisa/kB and 2 paise/kB IN ROAMING
2) rs 199 plan in which data transfer is unlimited but 2 paise /kB for data transfer in roaming!!!
----u can send mms at rs 3 /mms on prepaidas well as prepaid
--- u can surf wap sites using ACCESS POINT=WAP
that will be charged,,
i think at 2paise/kB on prepaid (NOT SURE ABT THIS)
and on post paid
Activation charges- Rs. 100
Monthly rental - Nil
Access Charges - Rs. 2/- per minute
(airtime plus internet access)
---Where the customer access's the WAP from place other than HPLMN, the applicable STD charges (as while roaming shall apply).

I GOT MY "G"SIGNAL ACTIVATED ON MY CELL AFTER 15TH MAY ONLY!!!

THIS CAN MEAN THAT SINCE NO FORM FILLING IS THERE AND THERE4 JUST SMS REQUEST ACTIVATION IS THERE!!
AND THAT IS WHY THEY ACTIVATED MY GPRS SIGNAL BCOZ OF THE SMS REQUESTS I HAD MESAGD B4!!
THIS MAY INDIRECTLY MEAN THAT INSPITE OF HOW MUCH I TRIED B4 15TH MAY ,THAT HAD NO PART IN ACTIVATING MY GPRS--
SO , I SUPPOSE THE ACTIVATION POST NEEDS 2 B EDITED!!!!!!!!!

I am from chennai and i got the bsnl gprs activated via sms request bout 6 months back on my prepaid. My settings are altogether different from what you have mentione. Probably its the old one. The speed is pathetic. In tamilnadu, there are 4 networks that offer gprs . . . Bsnl, hutch, aircel and Airtel. Airtel is the fastest. Bsnl and hutch are very slow coz they use an intermediate proxy server before connecting to their main proxy. I haven't tried my hands on aircel yet. Whats annoyin bout bsnl gprs is that not all of their towers are data capable. . Which means i get the gprs signal only on certain towers which are located in prime areas. The gprs signal is always off at my place which is a bit outside of the city.
I have a question. . . Is the gprs apn similar to Airtel mobile office which gives access to all ports and costing only 200 bucks a month for unlimited plan? In that case it sounds cheaper than mobile office. I am currently on Airtel net on phone subscription.

Great discovery man. But unfortunately, I can't try this one as the GPRS is not activated on my dad's cell.
Anyways, if this works perfectly without any cost, then you will be the Greatest GURU of GPRS.
