@p900 they work over network, OR there is a setting on a few of the newer models, where if for some reason u dont have service, or for whatever reason, u cna switch to another channel, and they work up to 6 miles off the network.
if you think they are popular in NY... go down south... everyone has them.

Almost expected that reply. One of the reasons i have read for it not showing up in norway, where im from, was that the providers can not agree on costs when a message have to pass from one to the other.

And my guess for why?
1. People dont know about it.
2. You cant use it to contact anyone thats not using the same network/provider
