I'm with O2 and they are giving their 3G service basically free with the K800i. Reasoning that 3G is still so garbage that the fact the K800 conects to GSM first and seems to stay connected even when a 3G signal is available.
How so? What services are for free?

im not quite sure what sonysandy means there. 3g is just the transmission medium, you pay the same data rates as you would on 2g but you get it faster. also i believe o2 allow you make video calls from your free minutes allowance which is nice.

Yup thats what i said, free minutes used for 3g or 2.5. No extra charge. 3G give you free voice mins and free video call mins, but they are seperate.

the sales guy said he went out with someone in my village so knows for sure it works
Dont be so niave. While there is every possability that there might be ŁG coverage in your area, dont take a sales advisors personal experiences as gospal..... they're paid on commision remember.
edit: infact if this guy is so sure, see if you can put it to the test by getting a loan phone or getting him to accompany you in your village, bet he bottles it.

I have been on 3 for the past 12 months and have been very happy with the coverage up and down the country. even in the highlands i had coverage (when the wind blew in the right direction. i kid you not). but after having no real contact with CS its only recently when i got my K800 from them did i face the dreaded Indian call centre problem. it took ages for me to upgrade from my 6680 , spent most of the time saying "sorry, can you repeat that please". apart from that i have been very happy with the service but i didnt like the fact that the K800 needs a slightly better arial IMHO. it seems to search a lot more than my 6680 and therefore used up the battery quicker. i also didnt like all the branding 3 had done. i dont mind a bit but there seemed to be more icons that took you on line to 3's websites than other networks. i dont use any of this so it was pointles to me. i sent the phone back and have just gone on to O2 and cant believe how different the menus (and phone) are. plus the K800 on O2 is totaly unlocked. i have my 3 chip in it while i wait for my number to be ported over.
but saying that i think 3 offer the best deals by far. they even offered me 6months free to stay with them, and a free K800. i really wish i could have and if O2 doesnt work out i may go back to them in 12 months time. i got a good deal with O2 though so as long as network coverage is good ill stay with them. they seem like a no-frills company compared to 3 orange and voda.
Just my opinions.
