Naaa they suck ass
Lol, they capped me and my mate, I was on about 200GB-300GB a month for about 6-7 months, then they capped us both and refused to take us of, EVER....which basically ment they wanted us to pay £30 for 56k.
Haha.
Be carefull with pipex m8, they don't care about their customers no matter how long you have been with them, I was with them over 5 years and they didn't care.

Hi guys n girls,
Well, I'm just about to move into my new house, but before I do, I want to set-up my broadband.
As it stands, the house has a BT line, but obviously its been disconnected, so we currently don't have a phone number. I presume I call BT to get this, but my real question is, once I've set up with BT, can I switch straight over to Bulldog, as they offer crazy-fast broadband (16Mb for £24 per month), and a fairly cheap call package (Unlimited calls for £12.00 per month).
Can somebody;
1) Reassure me that Bulldog is a good choice?
2) Tell me, do I have to pay a BT line rental on-top of Bulldogs charges?
3) An outline of the process, I'm a complete noobie when it comes to bills etc
Thanks for your help guys!
Cheers
SHTOP no rush...
Yes you can change over asap from bt to bulldog.
1. they are completely rubbish and unorganised as a company. They always used to take out the wrong amount of money from my account. which was meant to be £20 they took out £190 somethink like that. And then i had to chase them up and ask them "are you guys mad".
Stay completely away from these cow boys, seriously you want be happy. my friend had bulldog and he has problems with his phone line, sometimes it works and sometimes it dont. lol

They could do 1000mb Broadband, it DOESN'T mean you can get that speed!
It's just the fastest they do, and you would have to live pretty much right next to the exchange to get that full speed.
The further away you are, the mor it goes down.
For example, I can get 4mb, my mate 10min drive up the road can get 6.5mb.
We both pay the same though, 8mb demon.
Also, they don't have a *download* limit....but I know for 1, BT has a masssssive fair use policy, as in...they're 1 of the strictist around.
So if you like your downloads, BT is a deff nono as they WILL cap your line with a speed restriction.
Pipex done it to me, I was on unlimited for 5 years, they then capped my line under the fair usage policy and between 6pm and 12am my line went from 2mb to 56k.....Was painfull!
So make sure you read on on companies fair usage policys, they can be just as bad as a cap.
Also when you get your number, go here:
http://www.bt.co.uk/broadband
Put your number in and it will tell you what the max speed you can get is.
Just cause they do 10mb, most certainly does not mean you will be getting that....even though it's the same price.
No, I do understand what you're saying, but I'll be living in London, so I'm kinda guessing I'll never be too far away from the exchange.
I'm just trying to ge the best broadband, eg fastest speed no DL limit, as theres 4 of us in this house all with PC's. We don't need a phone as we all have mobiles etc
So, I just guess Telewest are teh best way forward.
@fatreg
I'm scared of pipex purely becuase of David Hasselhoff, old orange men in leather, conjures up bad thoughts

lol
Cheers

I have been with Bulldog since they started and have really had a problem. Few simple rules to maxing out your line.
1) You need to be in a few hundred meters of your exchange to get optimum speed ( I just moved to my new flat with completley new cabling and I am able hit 20Mbps no problem I am currently 300Meteres from the exchange straight line distance)
2)You dont need to sign up to BT first with bulldog you can order your new line and broadband all at the same time take about 2-3 weeks to be completed.
3)The master socket in your house is your best friend, if it is an old BT master socket try and get the face plate removed and install a better quality one..il send you some links later. alternativly when you remove the face plate plug directly into the test socket for optimum speeds. An example was when I moved in I pluged straight into the master socket and was syncin at 16Mbps removed the face plate and directly connected to test socket and bang 20Mbps.
4)The router is the most important thing, my advise is the Belkin 7633 ugly as it make look its one of the best to tweak to change the SNR on the line to either lower it or increase it again for optimum speeds.
5)So try and check this website
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/checker.php?input=address
6)and here is a step by step of playing with the BT socket
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php
7)If number 5 doesnt work try this one
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php
If you have any questions give me a shout, I would say Bulldog is really the place to go, I manage to pull down 20Mbps no problem with Newsgroups and Gigabyte files never seemed so small.

2 BT Engirneers round my house told me before I fit this new 1 do I want to keep this old one as it's alot better as it uses quality copper wirering or something....So don't go replacing old one thinging "new is better". It's possibly not.

Naaa big mistake, it's a cheap mans netgear.
Save up ya pennys a bit longer and get something of decent quality, a Netgear router, trust me you won't regret it.

Trust me my friend money is surely not a thing for me so yeah saying the cheapest is not always the best is well silly to say the least. I have a brand new DG834GT sitting boxed and a Linksys WRT54G3G and neither have been able to produce a sync as high as the Belkin 20Mbps with a SNR of 6.5db rock solid, I can show you the stats if you like.
Oh and I have also tested them at my two different house both new and old and Belkin still came out on top. If you want a Netgear that is plagued with bugs but asthetically looks nice feel free.
Oh and on to the the face plate factor well its simple, the face plate has nothing to do with the copper wiring, as suggested its a face plate, if it is wired wrong or of a poor quality you will have serious noise on your line. BT has face plates which are more suitabe for ADSL1 and when we talking about ADSL2+ they are not up to scratch.

Well, I took the plunge, I've gone with Telewest, 10Mb etc I think its fairly decent, couldn't be living with BT's download caps... Apparently I live in a good service area, so the speed should be fairly close, if not, 10Mb.
Now I've gotta find a wireless router for my house; I got 3 PC's to connect not including my own. File and print sharing isn't really going to help because my housemates lets say, are a little lacking in technoogy understanding...

So, just a nice stable connection with a good reception will be perfect.
Cheers

I'm hoping somebody can help me out, i've been with fast4 for around 7 months and i was paying £15 for unlimited downloads and there was no monthly contract, this was for 8mb.
I was quite happy with that but now they've changed everything over and are charging £16.95 for 15gb downloads which is just not enough for me, there seem to be some good deals out there but i don't want to be tied down to a contract.
Can anyone recommend anywhere as i want to get my mac code asap?

Plusnet recently won an award for "Best UK broadband provider" or similar but they're not particularly cheap: 20Gb per month for £19.19 or 40Gb for £29.99.
Probably not what you're looking for but I thought I'd mention them anyway since they are supposed to be pretty good. Can you get "no contract" broadband that's any good these days?

I'm struggling to find anything for 1 month but there are 3 month contracts i'm just really annoyed as i've done a speed test and i got 60kbps for download which is ridiculous, i pay for 8mb and i expect to get near that. I would go for 12 months if the service is good enough and the price is ok, looking to pay around £20 per month for 8mb or more it has to be unlimited though. Thanks for the input.
