unfortuantely im having similar problems, ive only had it for ~4-5 weeks, im really dissappointed, dont know whether to take it back to o2 and ask for a replacement, my t630 never gave me any problems, although my t68i did, i should have just stuck to a phone with buttons like my good old s700 arrgh!
do you guys think o2 would replace it?
@shane, can i ask how you went about cleaning it? i would like to do this too
thanks

My joystick is the same. Very unresponsive in its downward direction. Bought the phone three weeks ago.

One of the reasons i had enough of k8 was the joy, really uncomforteable and crap quality imo the k610 pad is far better

That I've seen too with my own eyes, its ten times better, also the joy on my K800 was messed up with directions(all 8 directions),so you did feel it when playing a game, just moved in wrong directions, that and the low sounds made me sell it.

Had a K750 for a while and never had any problems with the joystick during the time I had it. Made a point of keeping it clean with a soft toothbrush. I now have a W810, as I wanted to get away from the joystick phones.

Yep same here had it about 3-4 weeks. the downward direction is becoming ever so slightly unresponsive. Usually if i try and test it in the menu by going up and down and left and right it works. However when say i'm scrolling down in the file manager sumtimes it might miss a downward directional press.
/edit looks like it just got worse..

Deja vu i think, when are SE gonna realise that the joystick is not the way 4wd, stick with d-pads!!!!

Actually if i'm not very much mistaken d-pads are older technology than joysticks. I believe in the early gaming systems they all used d-pads until nintendo implemented the first joystick into their system and changed the way games were played... lol just a little off topic..
Personally i think both joysticks and d-pads are great, joysticks are great for gaming as long as they last and are durable...(dunno how nintendo manage to make theirs virtually unbreakable but SE seem to fail at it...)

For joystick problem. U can try to put some oil-like liquid.
I have used Singer Oil to repair K500i, K700i, etc joystick, u have to put little oil in joystick, and try to move it, if u tought it enough, clean the oil and test your phone joystick again.
Hope it work. Remember, u must open phone casing to do this. And this may void your warranty
