great idea!
The original se india thread was deleted because some new member posted some links.
This system would prevent such things from happening again

Trolling is an unfortunate part of forum life, especially when a forum is as active as Esato. But most trolls get bored very quickly and move on so I don't think that a warning system is really necessary.
Besides, the mods already warn members who are breaking the rules by PM. Maybe what's needed is more deleting of posts that are clearly inflammatory rather than just locking the whole thread. This raises the question of how do you decide what is inflammatory and what isn't, but that's where the mods experience and discretion comes into it.

i think its a great idea as i watched about 4 threads being locked last night in teh non-mobile section, one including the 9/11 thread - one that i perasonally have enjoyed very much, i think the main problem is in people not letting others have 'their view'..... we are all entiltled to our own opinions......
cyco i argee with you in that most do move on, but there will always be a few who enjoy ruining threads - and this is not focused on anyone in particular, i was simply stating what i saw last night......

don't worry, the 9/11 thread is not locked permanantly, and it is one that I purposely left open, because of the general conduct there, following the new rules about such topics
I could see it was going to be a problem last night and I was rather busy with friends so I locked it and simply have not got back to review it in finer detail to decide how it should be handled.

Another solution is to create an "Ignore" button.

@energy - I think that won't be necessary . . . as you can just simply . . . 'ignore' it
@amnesia - What I meant back there is some kind of a 'light' BAN . . . say, like an hour or two - when ONLINE

Bans are questionable?...but as amnesia proposed a 3 strike system and your out would be the best way...This should be shown with the 3 strikes visible alongside the username of the member..this would also deter other would be offenders.
Currently the system is very unfair and only punishes the poster who puts hard work and effort into his/her thread only for it to be sabotaged and spoiled by some idiot.

@axxxr - Yup, I totally agree with that . . . BAN is very questionable, specially if you were NOT given a warning prior

. . . just HIT the button in an INSTANT !
Under the avatar it should be posted:
First Offense - 1st Ban
Second Offense - 2nd Ban
Third Offense - 'Banished'

I think its time some sort of penalty system is introduced to punish members who deliberatly sobotage threads....I would personally like to call them \"Thread Terrorists\"
I think most here would agree that if someone can't have a civil and adult debate then you should not be allowed to participate in such discussions and spoil it for the others and the thread poster.
Too many are getting away with destroying other peoples hard work and something needs to be done about it!
