Success!

After trying dozens of IP addresses for the Yahoo! pop and smtp servers (there are many), I have been able to access my mail account over a circuit switcheed (not gprs) connection.

Where do you guys find all these IP-adresses?

Probably by running the following UNIX commands:

[laffen@zapina dir]$ host pop.mail.yahoo.com
pop.mail.yahoo.com is a nickname for pop.vip.sc5.yahoo.com
pop.vip.sc5.yahoo.com has address 216.136.173.10
pop.vip.sc5.yahoo.com mail is handled (pri=1) by nomail.yahoo.com

[laffen@zapina dir]$ host smtp.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.yahoo.com is a nickname for smtp.mail.vip.sc5.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.vip.sc5.yahoo.com has address 216.136.173.12

You can also find ip addresses by using web based, reverse dns lookup pages. Try using a search engine to find "reverse IP lookup" or "reverse DNS lookup". That's how I did it. Then, you just type the NAME of your Pop/SMTP server in and it will give you an IP address.

This Yahoo thing seems to be working fine with my friend's account (tried it out on my phone), but not with mine.

Any guesses or suggestions (apart from switching e-mail address with my friend)?

Thx

Moodswinger!

If EVERYTHING but the ID stuff are the same at your and your friends phones, I suggest you look it over very carefully. I swapped places for the POP3 and SMTP numbers myself. Emberassing! And try to start up your phone again, after doing any changes. It seems to be important. Good luck!

I've tried numerous IP combinations, but still with no success.

Can anyone confirm if they are able to access a yahoo account using vodafone ?

Thanks

Actually,

Friend's account works impeccably on MY phone, and when I punch in my account name and password (well checked a dozen of times), it says Wrong mailbox or password. Go figure.

It's really painful and kinda humiliating - she can check her e-mail from my phone, but no access when I give it a try. Does anyone have an idea what might be at stake here (apart from personal issues between me and my phone)?

Thanks

Moodswinger:
You have to specifically enable POP3 access to your Yahoo! account. You can enable this by clicking on the Options area of Yahoo! mail under "POP Access and Forwarding". You'll have to agree to get spam from Yahoo once a week, but you can just filter that out by setting up a filter to delete anything from "Yahoo-Delivers@yahoo-inc.com". The filters are also in the options area.

I tested this by disabling pop access on my Yahoo account, and I came up with the login error myself. I'm sure this is your problem.

Hope this helps!
