I use Sound Forge 8 to convert my songs to 128kbps. They sound GREAT on my W800i.

Most of my MP3's are in 320kbs (on computer), what would be the "best fit" for use on phone?
With that bitrate, it makes very little sense to use mp3, since it means nearly no compression at all. It's better to store the disk image instead on disk. The only advantage with mp3 in that case is that it is playable on some mp3 players. I say "some" since not all mp3 players are capable of handling that high bitrate. Too low bitrate is no good either, since the sound quality suffers. Files with bitrates below 64 kbps are not worth the effort of uploading to the mp3 player. IMHO, bitrates around 128 kbps are the best compromise between size and quality for mp3 players.

Of course, it's a matter of opinion, but also about in what way the mp3 player is being used. If you use it mostly in a noisy environment, like on the bus or in the subway, or if you use it mainly connected to your super-hi-fi equipment at home, there are different demands on the sound quality. Most of the times, in the way I use my phone as mp3 player, 128 kbps is enough for me.

usually 128 kbps is good for me, but I only have a 1GB mem stick on my phone and i usually listen to it when travelling for long hours, at 128kbps my k750 will run out of juice in 2 hours, but with 80-90, i could go for 4 hours, possibly...

anything lower than 128kbps is not acceptable. on the hand, higher bitrate requires more card space. so here is my question, anyone here ever tried using a M2 4gb card in their phones? in my W660i, currently using a 2gb card. wanna use a 4gb card so that can still have the same number of songs but on a higher bitrate. anyone here can help?

anything lower than 128 would jeopardize your Walkman-listening experience...
i use Audiograbber and Audacity for compression.
yeah baby, Walkman rocks!
cheers!
