i'm probably part of half of the w810 community whose w810 doesnt hiss
for those who do are holding on until FAR supports CID49 so the drivers can be tweaked

I would say both phones are great. K618 is a little smaller and lighter and 3g. I switched to the K610 because I needed UMTS for business, EDGE was too slow. Except for the hissing noise the W810 was great. If you get one without the hiss and don't need UMTS speed - go for it!

Not all w810s have the hissing issue. And if there is, i'm very srue that it can be fixed in the near future. IMHO, the hissing should not be an issue altogether. You don't listen to low level volume music anyway.
Go for the W810. Better phone. Bundled with accessories.

! Or let's say I listen to music where there are low volume parts and lout ones in one track (large dynamic). And then the hiss did anoy me. Instead of a low voice I heard a low voice inside a hiss. That's not funny.
I know there are new drivers now for the W810, but you have to do it yourself, buy FAR manager and if there is an official update it is all gone...
But if the W810 with the latest software doesn't have the hiss - then it is an excellent phone.

Well, i think being annoyed about something is subjective and relative

When i listen to music, i listen to the music. I don't try to find out if there's anything (like a hiss) playing with it. If there is, it is very minimal. I'm curious how a k610 media player will be more pleasingly audible than a walkman phone. Would love to get to try one of these

It's probably the absence of the Megabass that makes the difference? hmmm..
btw, it's inappropriate and incorrect to refer the walkman hissing as a "noise", especially if the hissing is only recognizable in low volume levels. Hissing Noise is different from"a hissing sound", which is more correct if one is to describe hissing at low volume levels.

I didn't use it anyway so I don't miss it. By using the manual equalizer you can get almost the same effect. But I don't use that either. Maybe because I'm not using the original earphones.

@kimi
I don't use it either - Megabass, i mean. I'm planning to buy an MPS-60 for my w810. I tried those speakers with the maximum volume and with megabass. It was impressive. Great bass sound without compromising the treble and voice amp

But if it's gonna be used with earphones, no Megabass is recommended. Thus, K610 is as an mp3 player.
