I do this all the time. I go to sleep daily with my gprs connected...
And yes @701 is right. Unless the page was reloading at regular intervals, which I presume did not happen, you need not be worried.

When using GPRS u connected all the time, "always on", as they say. Which means, that even u r always connected if u don"t traffic data, u're not paying a dime. so when u were asleep, u didn't actually browsing so no extra money will be on ur bill. If u have a wap acount with dial-up, THEN and ONLY then u r paying based oon ur amount of time spent online So, don't worry, when u fell asleep u stoped trafficking data which means u wont pay extra.
I am sorry so many ppl that post here couldn't tell u an usual thing like that. Research guys, research before u speak....
oh thanks mate.. that was a great explanation.

For the other people.. i guess they're trying to help.. you know, a quick way of help

gprs/EDGE/3G charging depends on service provider policy. Here in the Philippines, the 2 main rival networks chose different policies. Smart Telecoms charges gprs/EDGE/3G on a time basis -- about 19 cents for the 1st 30 mins, & a proportionate amt for every minute thereafter. Their rival, Globe Telecom, charges gprs/EDGE/3G on a per-kb basis. As for CSD (dialup), no one i know uses it anymore.

Here in the Netherlands it also depends, on which provider you're using. Vodafone charges the time you're browsing. The other providers : KPN (our largest provider, landline also), T-Mobile and Orange charge GPRS per kb.
WAP-charges are always time-based, but almost nobody uses it anymore.

An unlimited plan is helpful either way...

Look,if you use csd u get charged by time,if you use GPRS then you only get charged by traffic and that's all.Some operators charge you when opening a Gprs session but that's about it.They can't charge you every hour like you say cuz you are always on, connected.

This depends on the provider you're using, as I said before, in the Netherlands, Vodafone charges the time you're actually browsing, it's true, with GPRS you're always connected, but as soon as you start op your browser and start downloading content, they start charging. On Pay As You Go it costs 25 eurocents per 15 minutes. I don't know how much it is on a contract, I don't have a contract on Vodafone, only KPN and Orange.

@marly - so Vodafone is like Smart here in the Philippines. I use Smart sim (time-based gprs/3G) when i want to download heavy content & am prepared to go surfing for at least 30 mins. It's good value for money. But more often i browse very briefly via opera mini, to just take a peek at esato, for example, & in these cases i use the other provider, who charges per kb. Good to have both options

@chili :
You're right, having both options is perfect

! That's why I have a Vodafone PAYG simcard, next to my contracts on KPN Mobile and Orange.
