I should imagine they would. It can't be cheap opening a store there, the price must be astronomical per square foot.

Some info for anyone interested. Regarding some pics I've seen:

They show a Mini Cooper fitted up wwith a SE Car BT kit and service centre downstairs in the basement.

Swirling staircase (is that the right term?) in the centre of the store to go floor to floor.

Ground Floor (as you go from front to back):

Promotional Zone, Walkman (In Tune) focused area and CyberShot (In Focus) focused area.

Basement (front to back)

Lab/Repairs (Service Centre?), (In Touch) area, (In Control) area and toilets at the back.

There's also the new James Bond car on the ground floor on the right (in my pics anyway, although not sure if that's gonna be REALLY there!)

@Marc_SE

No, not really

It would one of my 1st ports of call when in London.

I'd like to have a go at a W950i and streaming BT Stereo headphones. I think the TrackID feature is amazing too - I'd like to have a go at that - amongst other things

The floorplan I have states 'Lab/Repairs', so can't say much more than that really.

This was posted on MobileToday yesterday:

Carphone to run Sony store
12:37AM Tue 3 October 2006

Sony Ericsson will take its first step into standalone retailing when it opens a Carphone Warehouse-managed mobile phone store in London's Kensington district this November.

The 7,300sq ft store will encourage mobile phone buyers to sample Sony music and movie content before they buy or upgrade phones. Sony hopes its emphasis on content-related accessories such as speakers and headsets will also tempt consumers to prioritise content capabilities when they buy phones.

'If we were going to open hundreds of them on every high street yes it would be competitive,' said retail director Salvatore D'angelo. 'But we want to showcase our products because our corporate HQ is based in the UK and many overseas visitors come here to visit us.'

The move comes as Nokia prepared to add a new flagship UK store to its existing portfolio of Nokia-branded stores run by Carphone Warehouse and other local providers.

Sony's will open another nine standalone stores in big cities around the world, but the new High Street Kensington store – close to its Hammersmith HQ – is the only store it has planned for Britain.

Its management deal with Carphone Warehouse will give the aggressive phone retailer a revenue split that is 'very, very, similar to a normal Carphone Warehouse store' but the management deal apparently sets off-limits any attempts at in-store branding by Carphone Warehouse.

'There's probably going to be a legal plaque on the wall saying the store is operated by Carphone Warehouse,' a Sony spokesperson said. 'That's all.'

Sony's announcement last week came as it launched a brand makeover designed to increase the appeal of its phones to ordinary customers. Using warm colours and 'friends and family-oriented' messaging it hopes to move away from the technology and cool colours that it says pervades today's phone brands.

Independent retailers will see the effects of Sony's new branding efforts over the next few months as a wave of new point-of-sale materials cascade into the High Street.

So possibly just a CPW (albeit branded) Service Centre?
