Hmm, same deal on the Vodafone site for 75 minutes is £9 for 3 months then £18 a month after that on an 18 month contract... Handset price is £220.00

I can't believe that Vodafone are giving these away for £20 a month for 12 months. How on earth can they be making any money for £240.00 a month? That wouldn't cover the price they pay for the handset would it?

Looking at UK ebay there are many many Voda P990s on sale. One yesterday sold for about UKP290! So looks like Vodafone have flooded the market. Any Vodafone insiders know how many P990s have been sold in the last month? I would guess around 3000 units (UK).

I've just returned from the Romford Vodafone store in Essex, armed with a print-out of this thread.
The bloke there confirmed the P990i's PAYG price as stated in this thread, but he said that according to the in-store price, if taking the lowest tariff ie. £20 for 75 minutes, I would have to pay in a colossal £350!!!! This was printed in the in-store booklet itself...if anyone else sees differently in their local V-store, please let us know!
He knew nothing about any weekend special/s for this particular weekend whatsoever; he wasn't either arrogant or nonchalant at all, and certainly seemed to know his beans, so I dunno...

It was £100 if I took the £35 tariff, but the bloke eventually agreed to waiver this and I could get the phone for free if I did go ahead and take out a £35 a month contract with them...

^...That is what I was offered.

I went into the Voda store in Cardiff last week to have a look at the P990. I was advised that the best option was the handset for £100 on a £35 a month contract. The guy did say as it was a new connection he would waive the handset charge so it would be free with a £35 monthly charge. I was very tempted but have decided to see my contract out with Orange and bought a sexy little 5500 sport for £150 from Argos.

I know it sounds sad but the fact that UIQ 3 still forces you into an edit template when viewing the last agenda page was a deal breaker.

The 2 shops I went to had no idea of the deal and when I showed them the thread they said first we've heard of it.

I succombed and decided to go for it, and this is the deal;

£35 per month, 18 month contract, 750 mins, 250 sms, Stop the Clock, 3 months half price line rental and the phone for free.

I ring O2 for my PAC number and they say well we will offer this;

1000 Xnet mins, 200 sms, 12 month contract for £35. Looks like I will be returning my P990i tomorrow. It came with the battery in it and a text message saying a call had been missed about 5 days ago!!! So someone had already messed about with the phone prior to me, I hope it wasn't a 14 day return I got!!!

Thoughts on the phone are that it is suspect and I have had to restart it 4 times by removing the battery, si I guess I have a faulty one or a very buggy one.

hi chaps, first let me say i spent all morning yesterday on the phone to voda cust services to try and find a shop that had a p990 in on payg, i live in swadlincote and work in coventry, the only shop near me was the leicester shop, i went over to buy it on payg,the contract deal was suggested to me by the store asslstant and i took them up on the offer,now wether i got lucky or not i dont know but what i can say is that im siiting here with a p990, looking at the paperwork which states 12 month contract at 17.02 per month(+vat) no half price deals for so many months or anything like that, maybe it was a special in leicester only?

cheers
