Go for the w800 or k750 w/ CID36 dude and learn how to use FAR, then buy a 2gb or 4gb MS Pro Duo, then I think its a perfect christmas gift!

If your dad likes taking pictures then it has to be the K800 has it really has the best of both worlds. While the W850 may have an excellent MP3 player, the K800's mp3 player is more than adequete. I used to have a walkman phone and have no problems with the walkman on the K800 at all.
When it comes to comparing the K800 and the W850 camera theres no comparison as the K800 has an excellent camera, and if he want to take picture of the kids playing it's probably a better option since the K800 has auto focus and they're less likley to come out blurred. It also has the best pic option where it takes 8 pics at once and you choose the best.

i have been hearing alot of reports and reading alot of negativity about the k800i joystick. so far i'm looking at both the w850i and k800i prices online and just seeing what is cheapest but i havn't seen much complaints or problems from people with the w850i

to be fair to the k800i, the w850i has been in the shops for a shorter time, so therefore there may be less reports of long-term problems with the phone. have
Sony Ericsson not changed the design of the k800i now though? if they haven't....they're being pretty stupid.

actually there are lots of problems with the sliding mechanism in the w850, the joystick is the only main problem with the k800, once the joystick is cleaned regularly then there would be no problem. One problem i've seen with the k800 is the small keypads for texting, if ur father does lots of texting also this would be a problem. i would suggest go for the k800 but jus incase go for say... w810, that would be another great choice, forget the w850 since u say he likes to take out lots of pics, go for the k800 or w810

I agree with this. I still use a normal digital camera for taking pictures. If I had the k800, w810, k750 or any other decent 3/2mp with autofocus I would use the camera in the phone more though.

The N80 doesn't have AF (autofocus) though, so it's camera seriously sucks. Someone on a trip to Belgium a month or two ago had one, and my pictures on my v600i (1.3mp, non-AF aswell) came out better. Weird. Also, the k800i has a real xenon flash, rather than a single/dual led flash or none atall.

Just because he likes to take pictures doesn't mean he needs his phone to be capable of doing it.
I like to watch movies but it doesn't mean my phone is best for doing this.

is there much difference between the w800i and the w810?
he is planning to use his phone on the 3 mobile network to get access to the free live scores/football news etc.
so the phone should be available on the 3 mobile network. i know the w850i and the k800i are available on this network not sure about the w810i.
another walkman music phone is the LG U400. don't really know much about that phone though and i don't think it will be any better than the sony ericssons
