avant is not my kind, its all "boxy" for me
firefox 2.0 with all the plugins, good show , i specially like the inbuilt spellchecker option in FF2.0.

Safari's great
I also like the native konquerer (spelling?) browser in Linux's KDE desktop GUI. It's exactly what Bill Gates was dreaming of for windows but never managed to make happen

Avant Browser for PC
And a jolly good browser it is too!
I guess its not really a browser as it sits on top of IE and just extends its functionality with some nice options
I've been using it for years as it provides tabbed windows which it remembers each time you run it. I also use the auto page refresh facility quite a bit, especially for esato and ebay.
in the early days of avant browser it was also good for blocking popups but I guess thats a bit redundant these days

I'm not sure how one should class it really? I'm not suggesting that you're wrong, it does use the IE 6 core but on the other hand it is a stand-alone app in it's own right...
Anyway, you're the software guy so I'm not gonna argue with you!

stand-alone? can you run it without IE? I dunno, even their own
FAQ seems contradictory as its says
What is Avant Browser?
Avant Browser can be best described as a custom web browser application. Avant Browser is a standalone application designed to expand services provided by Microsoft Internet Explorer.
how can it be standalone when it is clearly reliant on IE?
well whatever, its a very good piece of software which has grown alot since I first used it, no matter what its called!

this is a discussion of a trivial point, not a competition or
vs as you put it.
