Just adding that quad core processor(core 2 extreme aka QX6700) really shows gains in POV-Ray,Maya and other studio based applications..

yeah the processors are somewhat improtant but you need an extremely high performance graphics card, im not talking these ones for computer games and that crap im talking 10 grand plus on the card alone.
and i assume youve had training in maya if your willing to fork out the big buck for unlimited?

Yeah, I think Nvidia's Quadro FX range of graphics cards are a popular choice for graphics workstations. Something like £2000 - £3000 each if I remember correctly

I dont know which vendor is the best over there but
Dell Precision 690 looks good.
It might be a good idea to wait for the quadro based on 8800,as its a major upgrade from 7900s.
