while sure there are individual better places to put money, some needs to also go to exploration and research of all kinds as it only serves to expand the capabilities of mankind.
Space exploration has given us so much that we take for granted already and there will come a time when mankind will depend on what we learn now.
First there were people who went a few km in search of food, then they ventured further eventually gaining technology to roam oceans and now we are trying to reach out even further.
While I understand the sentiment of your statement I feel this has a far more reaching benefit for all

Good point masseur but i think Residentevil is right aswell,we have far bigger problems on earth,War,famine ect,we need to deal with those issues first before we can think about spending such vasts amount of money on space exploration.
Doesn't sound justifiable that we have people dying of starvation in certain parts of the world, yet some governments want to spend Trillions on space exploration.

I agree with Masseur.
We can't jut put exciting projects like these on-hold until everyone stops squabbling on Planet Earch because that will never happen. The International Space Station is already proof of what can be achieved when countries co-operate.
There is already talk of putting a man on Mars and no doubt being able to achieve that aim will produce new amazing technologies that will ultimately be for the benefit of us all.

I can only hope that with all these space projects going on, more people will look skywards at the stars and start to realise how small we all really are in the cosmic scheme of things and stop fighting over petty things...
Though I think I'm in cloud-cookoo land if I think that's going to happen.

I dunno, I think the end sequence of men in black 1 came close to showing people that
(now scratch your head to remember what that was!)

I would think the last thing on some people's minds is looking skywards when in certain parts of the world (you know where) they don't know where their next meal is going to come from?...War,Starvation and Famine are major issues which countries like the U.S should be dealing with first before they should even start thinking about spending such vasts amount money on such a space programme.
I think we need to get our own house in order before we make such huge commitments in space..Don't get me wrong im all for Moon Base's and Space exploration,i've been dreaming about this stuff since i was a kid....but we have to take into account the much bigger problems we have on earth.
Your right though we will never be able to settle our differences with each other...well it doesn't look likely anyway as long a certain country keeps medling.

The Russians, China, UK and France all spend huge amounts on Space research and all still have children in their respective countries that are living below the poverty line.
I agree that a whole lot more needs to be done to sort these problems out but some of these space agencies are none-governmental.

Well I think a few things have to be developed first like a cheaper way to get into space and maybe even a faster mean of travel for us earthlings.
@masseur
Didn't really have to scratch my head to remember that scene, the scratching was because of the dandruff
