Let me get this straight, the branding and firmware are independent? Can all branded phones get the new firmware without being unbranded first?

This is awesome news for me

I can't wait to get my Orange branded W950i debranded and looking like it should without that horrid menu bar thing!

That's excellent news. I am desperate to have my Orange M600i unbranded. Where can I find out more info on how to do this/what hardware and software I will need.

Thanks for the link. Is there a recommended retailer for the UK Coxy? It seems that you need a 4-1 cable, a USB dongle & a card? And also credit of some description? Looks like the only UK official retailer doesn't sell this. If there's a link with some more detailed info I'd be happy to look.

Yes you need the cables and dongle, but not a card. Once you have all your details you create a user on the setool site with access to the download section which contains the firmwares. The program itself is freely available for download but will not start if a dongle is not detected.

£120 inc p+p via paypal here. You get the cables (old new LG and Sharp) and dongle.

You will however require a 3 volt power source which the cable attachs to e.g. mine is a game boy colour battery charger with the end cut off and wires exposed. You could use a double, AA battery holder with the wires leading off, as one AA battery contains 1.5 volts, I also have this and it works perfect for working on the fly!

It costs £16.37 for 10 credits to flash DB2020 or PDA phones.

Hope all this helps.

Excellent. Thank you very much for the info Coxy. Looks like this is how I will get my M600i done - unless there's someone in Bristol willing to do it for cash. Sounds like a sound investment though to me .

This is music to my ears. If there is anybody who wants to debrand my w950i I am willing to pay them for the job. It's not a sound investment for me to spend £100 on the cable, dongle, etc just to do 1 phone. I am based in the midlands but am regularly travelling. Heck, if it's someone trustworthy off this site then I will send my phone to you in the post with a small cheque of appreciation! PM me if you want to help an old (esato) timer out.

EDIT: Perhaps you could explain coxy. If one unbrands an orange phone (for example) and then goes on to use SEUS to get the newest firmwares, does it revert back to being an orange branded phone? If this is the case then is this a hardware/software limitation or is this debranding not a complete solution? Thanks
