I think there is a very good chance the could take the UK this time around. I have been tracking the sales on the Mobile Today site regularly.

Motorola has only had 2 handsets in the contract top 20 sellers all quarter - with the V3i and its KRZR and hasn't been doing too well in Western Europe in general.

What about the Moto Razr. It is a big hit with the common folks here in the US.

@Shaliron

has said previously that it will never make a handset that will be priced as cheaply as some that Nokia and Motorola make and because of this I think it will always be outsold in emerging markets like India and Africa. In Europe it has concentrated on being more high-end than its competitors and I think this strategy will be adhered to.

If it can hold its own in flagship markets - or mature markets for that matter - and still make a profit then why should they be concerned.

Sony Ericsson Q4 Earnings seen doubling

STOCKHOLM, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson (7358.T: Quote, Profile, Research) (ERICb.ST: Quote, Profile, Research) is set to report a doubling in fourth quarter pretax profit as it has broadened its portfolio and stayed strong in the music phone segment, a Reuters poll showed on Wednesday.

The average of forecasts of 18 analysts was for pretax earnings to rise to 428 million euros ($556.1 million) in the quarter from 206 million a year ago, the poll showed.

Sony Ericsson, which has tended to stay out of the very low-cost end of the market, rose one spot to be the world's fourth-largest mobile phone maker in the third quarter, overtaking South Korea's LG Electronics (066570.KS: Quote, Profile, Research).

"Sony Ericsson typically does not fare well in terms of market share in Q4 owing to the weighting towards the prepaid segment where the company does not compete as well," Deutsche Bank wrote in a note on Ericsson.

"However, we believe that the company (Sony Ericsson) has done well again in Q4 reflecting its robust, feature rich handsets," it added.

The poll showed an average forecast for Sony Ericsson handset sales of almost 23 million units, up from 16 million in the same period of 2005, but well below the 88 million handsets sold by market leader Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) in the third quarter.

The company, whose best-selling recent products have been its range of Walkman phones and camera handsets, is due to release its earnings at 0730 GMT on January 17.
