Well, Cisco did have the trademark for quite a while (a few years if I'm not mistaken).
But Apple does deserve the name, but couldn't it just be named something else? Pod has nothing to do with music, so the phone could be named anything really....

well thry couldve called it something like (apple)phone, the same way they call Apple TV (apple)TV. But I guess they don't want to confuse the users on how to say the (apple) part
