Okay, to clear this up: unless you have NEVER before flashed the phone you will not have any benefit reflashing because the seus update software for your pc is updated!!!

Once you have flashed your phone, you have the SEUS flash files ON YOUR PC. So if you reflash, it uses the exact files that are already on your pc!

I have R9. My phone came with R5 and I upgraded to R7 and then to R9 via SEUS. What is reflash? Have I done one by upgrading the firmware? I am a bit confused on the terminology here.

Update to pervious post.

Considering that I have had my phone reboot on incoming calls once too often I attempted to upgrade my firmware again. SEUS recognised the old firmware and said that the phone had the latest firmware and offered an option to continue (the other option was to exit).

On continuing SEUS wen through the motions of installing firmware including deleting all the messages, settings etc.. however upon finishing the free memory is now only 14.2-14.7MB where as it used to be 16.7-17.4MB earlier. I have deleted all applications from task manager. I do not have Swiss Manager or any 3rd party applications.

I believe that SEUS has installed the newer firmware ontop of my old firmware although both have the same revision number. I could be wrong, mobile phones are not my strong suit.

My present firmware now is:
Phone
CXC 162037 R9EA001
Bluetooth
CXC 162058 R5A01
Organiser
CXC 162036 R4A13
CDA
CDA 162007/2 R4A09

To the mage: if that is right, why SEUS program looks for updates for itself at the begining, then after finalizing(installing its updates)ask you to connect your phone.if the updates of SEUS pc program don't improve the updating FW process, why SE should update the program?

Updating the firmware is more complicated than just saving a file, needs to try and survive if your PC crashes for example

Updating the PC software (seus on you pc) is NOT the same as the FW for the phone.
When you connect to seus, the software on the PC(!) looks for updates of ITS (!) software, NOT THE FW!!!

After that is done and you connect the phone and it finds you have the latest and then gives you the option to update anyway, then
1. IF you have never done it before, it will download the FW files to do the flash
2. IF you have updated that phone with THAT same fw before, it will NOT download the fw again, but flash it with the files on your pc.

Just try it and see for yourself.

And all that has nothing to do if your phone afterwards has more or less files, memory or storage or even more or less flaws. Just think of your computer, you can install the same program on the same machine and the end result is different. How come... don't know...ask the machine!

I checked and it seems none of SEUS nor P990i firmware has changed during last 3 weeks!

Updating SEUS may not appear to you..it means: downloading updates silently when you connect to server.so don't wait until you see a new version.(SEUS downloads updates for the same ver)

has any1 checked through the logfiles of the information that SEUS transmits to server????
just as a point of conjecture i wonder if the SEUS could be 'fooled'
a bit of the info that led me to believe this is
The firmware file must be located in "%SystemRoot%\\System32\\Drivers".
; You cannot specify a path for the file.
;HKR,,FxFwFile, %REG_SZ%, "YourFirmwareFile.ihx"
;HKR,,FxBootloaderCheck, %REG_DWORD%, 1
;HKR,,FxExtRamBase, %REG_DWORD%, 0x2000

this was taken from system32/drvstore/semis06_blah'blah'etc

follow up............
when seus connects to tinternet to download updates it sends some info to the seus server.. the info it sends is based around the handsets info and operating system pc (browser control ports to connect etc) there is a file i found, when opened with txt reader states some of the info that is needed for server to transmit correct file to pc-phone..like the software on handset cda info etc..if we could 'fool' this there may be a solution ....as i say this is guessing and hoping.
