Nokia developed S60 on its own incl. peripherals like webbrowser, gaming platform etc. SE bought UIQ3 from Symbian.

And these are the unbias truth.

Oh stop these stupid comparin an all... whether SE has UIQ or not, we all know its an unstabl n non-productiv platform (atleast 4 now). SE shud pick up the pace, release mor affordabl UIQ handsets, creat developer friendly policies, create better hardwar (certainly must learn a lesson from P990i) etc...

If SE cudn do these... sory 2 say they'd loose mor of celfon market...

For now...Nokia has no competition in smartfon market. And that wud continu if SE wudn learn frm their mistakes.

For now there's no point in our discussion of which's better dan d other!

I will always be a NOKIA fan ! I ONLY buy fones because I am here at Esato Though honestly, being forced to get me some fones, made me REALIZE that they are GOOD fones after all . . . there will always be a STRICT competition between Nokia and . . . and I will NOT be surprised that if ONE day will be overtaking Nokia in the #1 spot !

FYI... SE already did topple Nokia! and regarding n95, i bet SE will release cybershot 2 phone which obviously will be better than the first and technically better than n95

@dayz - . . . and WHERE did you GET your FIGURE dude How can a 4th or even 5th PLACE (then) (position) mobile phone manufacturer TOPPLE the #1 mobile phone seller and all for the Nth time and . . . running Perhaps did overtake Nokia in some category or even in just 1 quarter, but not over-all !

true. but ericsson already sold off UIQ OS long time ago. If you have noticed, I mentioned new UIQ3 (and not the old UIQ1/2) which is totally a Symbian Ltd product. So I am still correct to say SE (as an entity) has no experience in developing a smartphone OS. (of course this will change with purchase of UIQ3)

UIQ is a wholly owned subsidery of Symbian (itself part owned by both Ericsson and SE, Nokia and others). Probably, some of the same programmers who programmed UIQ 1, still work at UIQ. UIQ3 will continue to be developed by the very same company, the same people, in the same location it has always has been (sweden). The company changes hands, not necessarily the experience or knowledge base

UIQ3 was developed by UIQ under Symbian ownership but with a very strong input from SE. SE have been deeply involved with UIQ since the P800, and probably kicked in the most development bucks at all points of development (as I doubt Nokia would want to spend much on a rival os). How can you say they don't have experience at OS development? Nothing has changed except an asset has switched from one corporate body's asset register to another.. Everything else is still exactly as it was before.

All SE need to do, is manage the development effectively, it doesn't matter what technical experience they have. That gets purchased along with all the other UIQ assets.

UIQ isn't a bad platform..not at all..and to be honest, it's only going to get better.

Ive been a s60 user since the launch of the 7650, and ive seen (and owned) a few handsets that haven't been upto par...but you'll find that with other manufacturer's too...

At the end of the day, it's all down to preference..
