This doesn't make it better but/BUT: maggflodd the "atheist" used to share a house in Ireland with 2 catholic religion teachers... They used to teach exactly the same kind of non-sense and worse... A current irish history book has exactly 1 page about women... "feminists in the 70's" were "frustrated" and "hated all men"... I'm a men; I hang out with hard-hard-hard-core feminists (incl. Mrs maggflodd)' none of them just so "hate all men"...
In my non-faith "liberal" German school, in the eighties you could wear a conservative party badge, but a "No nukes"-sticker could get you expelled... In catholic Ireland you can buy Playboy-branded thongs for 10-12yr-olds!!!(no shit)
... If you wanna debate "-isms", you cannot cherry-pick... Else, you're just an "...-ist"! Paxman has lost any idea of his own media-whorish-ness... Even though that schoolbook is badbadbad, but there aren't ANY good ones - that'd be a contradition in itself!

Have problems accessing youtube on the PC I'm currently on, but if the clip is the same as Newsnight the other day, which involved the Principal of the King Fahad School, then I saw it. Newsnight had obtained copies of textbooks used by the school (sponsored by the Saudi government). The head teacher refused to repudiate the content of the books (i.e. Jews and Christians were equated to pigs and monkeys), stating that certain other chapters could be used for the schools "objectives". She has since climbed down somewhat (probably after instructions from the her Saudi wahabi sponsors), and promised to remove the offensive chapters.
P.S. The above person said the controversey was due to misinterpretation. If you had watched the entire program, you would know that Newsnight had asked two independant Islamic Scolars to translate the material for them.

Christianity wasn't exactly spread on the basis of peace and love if you check your history,The Christian church at the time of the crusades made many translations showing non-believers as Evil and Wicked and damned to hell and there justification and right to mass murder millions in the name of Jesus christ,which is still being done today by i might add by G.W.Bush who is a respresentive of the Church.
This is yet another attempt to demonise Islam without trying to understand it properly.

i happen to watch that episode of Newsnight,what i would like to know who those two so called Islamic Scholars were? ...why didn't they just bring on them on the programme to make there case?...for all we know those interpretations or misinterpretions could have done by anyone under the banner of Islamic Scholars.

The supposed scholars and their "translations "(remember the translations of chirac's "no, to a UN resolution on Baghdad"... Talk about paraphrasing...)? The context? Specific/narrow (where were those fables )? The wider context?(what do other schools teach?)... Etcetc... When Paxman is good, he's good... When he wants to, he's no different from a Fox lip-servicer-to-the-mob-mentality! We are all left wondering/arguing/suspecting now because it was a totally lacking report - and applying that report's journalistic and ethical standards, you could denounce any- and everyone! imagine you write a novel that deals with racism. Good and bad, blah blah... And when you die, Paxman says, "maggflodd died today. He once stated, n*ggers stink" ... Well, maybe he didn't like my book, so he doesn't mention that I let an evil character say "all n*ggers etc..." H*ll, in a minute some alabama redneck googles "n*gger", and finds me, maggflodd, seemingly a fellow-racist... That newsnight report may have had a real case... unfortunately it didn't deliver... As such it was inciting, biased, devisive and lazy... Teaching the naughty naughty muslims to stand in the corner with a dunce hat on - while the rest of the class goes bonkers.

I don't say that religion is/was completely CREATED by men. But religion was DEVELOPED by men. Men change rules n theories as he likes. One religious scholar thinks one way, the other thinks another way. Everyone hav his/her conceptions bout God/Gods.
Isn't religion meant to develop peace & harmony b/w humans? Instead we use it to mock, torture, harass, even kill our fellow beings!
Shud i call shame on human race who's digging up their own grave?
or
Shud i call shame on God/Gods who 'enlighted' us with the potion called religion?
