Suppose it's not all about numbers though, quality comes into it as well. For example like America we have some of the most advanced military technology in the world, having one of the best airforces and navy and also we do have the best special forces in the world. But yes, a war against Iran on our own would not be highly recommended lol... stupid World Wars cutting our numbers.

Britain doesn't need a huge army because it is an Island.
Air and Sea defences are more important - but the UK's location in NW Europe puts it away from a lot of the trouble spots of the world. We seem to be nice and safe here apparently - not counting the enemy within.
