The phone is amazing I should be taking delivery of it tomorrow.

I've had a good play with it so lemme answer some questions etc. :

@[MDS] the orangewebsite (www.orange.co.uk/spv) has got a rotate-able picture which is really good.
Reviews loads - try zdnet.com just type "orange spv microsoft" into yahoo or something

@marknicholls in comparison the 7650 is huge!!! It's out of date and the screen is the same size as the spv but less colours

@amagab Every phone I've had has been locked to Orange and I'm completely fine with that. No problems ever

PLUS ONE THING FOR Y'ALL TO THINK ABOUT... CAN YOU PLAY DOOM ON THE 7650?? NOPE

get this... as soon as mine comes 2mo I'm gonna buy a 128 SD card, think how many songs I can store on that, I could even get an episode of friends on that!!! It'll give me something to watch on the bus to work

I honestly think that it'll give the p800 a run for its money - I have a feeling that they may delay the p800 even further after see what this phone is capable of!

I sat in the orange shop and listened to Shakira straight from the windows media site! The phone is amazing (p.s. shakira was the first one on the screen and not my song of choice)

ok arakin I didn't know that, but theres something I do know...

the spv has pocket pc goto any pocket pc site and see how many apps, games and utils there are out for this platform already.

I know the symbian os is meant to be nice and friendly for developers etc but the fact of the matter is, no one can compete with microsoft when it comes to making an os and selling bucket loads of copies.

what operating system is the majority of the world running? who made that operating system? nuff said.

Also one more thing DOOM only takes up 420k on the spv shouldn't eat into my 128mb sd card too much then

hmm, i don´t think you can run the pocketpc programs on SPV (those program design för ipaq and so on), i think the programs has to be designed for spv.

OR?

I don't agree at all...

There are not many Microsoft SmartPhone apps out there yet and you cannot run PocketPc sw directly on it. Plus there are not many Microsoft SmartPhones out there and the only one currently available is for Orange network only... E.g. 7650 is available for all 1800/900 MHz GSM networks there are and the user base should be already over one million also the P800 will be sold by multiple operators.

The operator lock approach won't work very long - e.g. in Finland you cannot sell simlocked phones - it's illegal to tie the phones&sim sells because it hampers competition -> Microsoft has no market in Finland.

Also because MS is only working with operators and majority of cell phone manufacturers have chosen Symbian it is currently loosing the OS battle bigtime.

If you want to make SW for smartphones you'd be better of choosing Symbian because the user base is so large already and other manufacturers are coming with Symbian OS phones that work on multioperator environment. It does not matter which SW you are running on your PC - the phone market is totally different area.
The PC world semantics do not directly apply here.

There are lot more apps for Symbian OS - a _lot_ more than for SmartPhone - etc. IRC/Jabber clients/Webviewer/Video recorder/RealOne player. Check:
http://my-symbian.com
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com
http://my7650.emuforce.net/

Also your Doom in 420kB is not possible (and where can I download it?) - you have not calculated the doom data files into that (doom.wad etc.). If I calculate only the Symbian OS Doom client that is only 334kB .
