Maybe im reading this question wrong...you actually want to open them IN your phone...as in using your phone to open them? or do you want to open files that are in your phone...?

If its the latter...use Winrar! Connect your phone to PC, put it in file mode and use Winrar to open the relevant files from the drive. Maybe the first real question would be.....why do you want to open these .rar files...presumably its to edit a programme.

I thought .rar was simply a compression algorithm like .zip or .tar, no? You see .rar a lot in usenet groups. Or so I'm told......

The rar can contain a jar, a sis, a doc, a xls, etc, all sorts of files that can be read in the phone...i really cant see your point...opening rar files on the phone can be needed/useful

Yes. You see, ones you have downloaded an app, lets say SMP to your phone and it is in a rar file, then you will need to unpack it

Well...its this..for an example. A .sis file is dowwnloaded to your phone. It will work cause its meant to..... but if you open this .sis with a windows archiver such as Winrar, you will see that the .sis is in fact made up of many other files. But you wont see this unless you open it with the likes of winrar. My only query was, why would you want to break down a .sis file? unless you were looking, for example, to alter a .class file etc.

Thats the only reason i am not sure why would want to open it on phone. Hope that clarifies any potential confusion. I am speaking specifically of using a winidows archiver to split open an otherwise useable file, which is what I thought the original poster was asking.

@satcha, I get what you mean, but I think you may have misinterpreted the original poster's question. He asked "How can i open .rar files in my M600i". So it could be that he has an attachment that's a .rar file containing other file formats and he wishes to be able to access these files on his M600i, without having to upload the .rar file to his PC to be uncompressed and transferred back to his phone. So basically what he needs is a Symbian application that's capable of accessing his .rar file.

@ satcha

I dont get that you meen at all. He was asking for an app that can open up an rar file, and in that rar file is some file he wants to be able to install or use on the phone. There was no talk at all about any sis file or any other file at all

it's already been mentioned here:x-plore. you can unrar .rar file from the phono to the phone. i have a 191kb archive containing 3 pictures ( just for test) and i extracted the files and then copied them in the pictures folder.
